Beyond Creation are a relatively young technical death metal band hailing from no other place than Quebec, the Mecca of tech death, Canada, the home of the awesomely weird musical ideas.

The Aura, their debut, is a death metal album but a very non-intrusive one, and even somehow pleasant to the ear. Although the extreme elements typical for technical death metal are present, the music overall has a very melodic framework and a great sense of direction; so, it is very easy to listen to, particularly due to what Beyond Creation play and how they do it. I like to think about their music in terms of soundscapes because the songs sound as if all the instruments blended into one tightly intertwined whole. This, I believe, happens due to a few factors.

This has a nice Origin/Obscura/Quo Vadis thing going on, and the vocalist brings everything he's got to the table. Dominic Lapointe rocks out on his bass as usual. Really strong debut, and a nice addition to the Eastern Canadian tech-death scene.

A serious contender for debut album of the year, mark my words. Preferably with caustic lemon.

These guys don't really sound anything like Origin to me. Theres Progressive/Tech Death and then theres just tech death, like Origin. I'd put these guys much more in progressive side of death metal with bands like Obscura or Martyr.

I was listening to this in the car the other day and turned it off and when I got back in the car I turned it on to find this really fusion sounding jam going on. I didn't know it was Beyond Creation at first and I was like I don't remember buying any fusion cds lately but this is awesome! haha.

They're all really good musicians as well, and Dominic Lapointe's bass playing is well worth mentioning. I'm pretty pleased with this direction in metal.

We don't use that term here. I think it was just made up today.

Thank funk.

Anyway I just gave this album a bit of a min-spin and I might have been a bit harsh with my 6.

Probably because of the whole CTDM thing...which I understand.

That's some good tech death: varied, exact, not too chaotic, quite melodic, great lead guitars, chillaxed though technical drumming, great use of fretless bass --> worth checking out.

It's also incredibly melodic for a tech-death album, much like Quo Vadis, Augury, Obscura, etc.

Kudos to Canada, these guys totally destroyed, blown away, ALL MY FAVORITE tech-death albums of previous years, i.e. Faceless - Planetary Duality which i still consider extraordinary, and Obscura's - Cosmogenesis which was an extremely well performed "tribute to Death and tech-death in general" album. I still cannot believe how they've manage it and i continue to enjoy it very often, a mind blowing trip, perfectly executed with simple but ingeniously impleneted melodies and astonishing riffs/drumming combination. While i was freshly mad for this album i bought not one but TWO copies, serious sickness..

Very good. I was on the verge of rating this a nine, actually, but I decided it might not really be quite my thing. Still, it was enjoyable. On subsequent listens I may decide to change my rating.

This is pretty standard Technical Death Metal, but the band's musicianship is pretty much top notch. What I like particularly is that the relationship between melody and brutality on songs such as 'Coexistence' and 'The aura' is really well thought out, and the instrumentation (particularly that eccentric bass on 'Injustice revealed' and 'Social disability') is excellent. Naturally Technical Death Metal isn't for everyone (Well, Death Metal isn't either) but Beyond creation really hit hard on their debut.

Pretty good album. Although wouldn't this be considered more of "Progressive Technical Deathcore"? Considering the dual vocals and such?

Deathcore?

Yeah I don't quite understand that. I also don't know how "dual vocals" would change the style of an artist at all.
