The Occupy Wall Street protests in New York City have been going on for a few weeks now, and if you ask me, this might be the most important display of dissatisfaction with the American government in recent history. Taking inspiration from the Arab Spring, and the recent similar protests in Spain.

There is not yet one defined goal for the protests, although the occupiers; motto "We Are The 99" says something about their motivation ----Growing inequaltiy, Washington corruption, and rich-induced class warfare.

So, have any of you partaken in the protests? Anyone agree with them? Disagree?

I guess this whole thing pretty much died on this side of the border. Some people still said they'd come back and protest non-violently on weekends or something.

you remember the movie First Blood (Rambo 1) when Rambo in the woods sought people sent to hunt him complaining about the stuff they have left to wait home and said "weekend warriors!"...i think that same principe goes for the "protesters" you described

let the corrupted minority hear what all the headbangers have to say about the elite's corruption, greed and inhumanity.

Not every "headbanger" agrees with this.

Unfortunately yes.
Funny though that lots of metal bands released albums speaking of the subject I mentioned above. and when i say a lot i mean a lot a lot a lot.

Anthem

Occupy Wall street is a mob mentality driven back to the French Revolution. They want free things and want no responsibility. They have raped , destroyed ( costing municipalities millions ), used drugs in publci, defacated in public. They lost the public when they could not behave,

The way i see it, the stupid thing about this whole protest is that it was just a very loosely organized clusterfuck as opposed to a regular protest with real demands and goals.

who organized it? no-one, people just showed up based on facebook invites and the likes.

what do they want? nothing that unites the protesters into one voice, everything from getting free education and paying even less taxes to legalizing marijuana.

how do they want to achieve it? by gathering and making drum- and joint- circles and shouting a few slogans once in a while.

and I re-read the opening post, I think it's not accurate to compare the protests in the USA to what's going on in Spain (where 100.000 people blocked Sol square for a few weeks due to the 20% unemployment rate, which is absolutely catastrofic, and a nationwide general strike in September 2010, might have been more since then). that, and they actually have something to complain about: the disastrous general economic state, which isn't the case in the USA.

Yeah lets go manifest passively -_- like this is gonna be of any use to anyone. Lets go MOVE the world, without moving, posted at some random public spots... doing what ? Nothing... right that sounds goddamn useful to me and to everyone in Canada/USA and in the rest of the world too, wooh ooh ! Yeah we're so oppressed man its crazy. I'd feel bad for the countries who are actually struggling to simply manifest like this for no real reason but the fact that I wanna MOVE things, cuz eh, its so cool to move the world ain't it ? What they feel oppressed maybe ? They feel uncomfortable maybe ? Yeah well go to somalia see if you feel better there.

I don't get why people are so offended by Americans showing their dissatisfaction for what some consider to be a very corrupt government. Somalia is so irrelevant, I'm not even sure.

But also, about the whole passive thing. Yeah, maybe more could have gotten accomplished had they been more strongly organized, with simple points that they wanted to achieve. But they sure did get stuff done. I mean, last August, how many 20 year olds really knew anything about possible places for corruption or unnecessary inequality? I mean, the sure as hell got people talking. Sure, most people would rather comment on the uselessness of the protests, than actually debate or at least think about topics that were commonly brought up, and you know, maybe make the protests useful.

And jeeze, while I'm writing this, I have some big ad from Rick "anal fecal matter" Santorum above my text box.

Looking back on it now, I was wrong about the Occupy Movement. It was nothing more than a collective of dirty hippies and lazy freeloaders. The only ideas they had were ridiculous socialist fantasies such as $20 an hour minimum wage, universal healthcare, and an even larger welfare state.
