OK let's find out what we think. Lately there's been some discussion regarding how we look at Black Metal from different countries and how to limit your listening to music after what country the music originates from. Please take the time to answer.

I hope that's not the truth

That the Cascadian scene is arguably becoming the "new" black metal? If you don't like the sound then it would be unfortunate for you, but it does seem to be gaining quite a following. From bands like Fell Voices and Petrychor to Falls of Rauros and Alda - also Skagos, Panopticon, the list goes on and on.

Yeah, the whole atmospheric, ambient post-whatever thing is not really my cup of tea.
And I'm aware that the movement is growing but no problem: there's enough other stuff for people who don't like it that much to listen to.

I prefer norwegian black metal due to the atmosphere it creates..it's so dark,i mean only living in an god-forsaken place like that would create that atmosphere
if norway was like africa (hot as s***) then we wouldn't have that epic sound. and also the whole nordic mythology too is kickass.
i rest my case.

i rest my case.

There are plenty of bands over the years that have been able to properly emulate the Norwegian sound.

true...but i prefer strickly norwegian black metal for that reason (being the REAL sound). i don't mind other forms such as avant grade though but that's another story.

At least in regards to my own tastes, I generally find I connect more with the French-Canadian, French and Eastern European scenes compared to any others. Although I certainly will listen to a black metal band regardless of where they're from if I like them, I find there to be a larger portion of artists from the aforementioned areas that I connect to.

All i want is for it to sound evil. This is my favorite aspect of Black Metal. The good bands sound like they are performing some ancient ritual, conjuring some horrific demon or spit on the spiky gates of hell. There certainly have been some scenes, but I don't think it is necessary for good black metal. It's really the atmosphere I go for. So bands like Emperor, Deathspell Omega and Xasthur really float my boat and they're all from different countries.

I tend to find myself liking more black metal from europe (eastern, nordic) but personally I think its retarded to be a poser and stick to a scene just because. You like what you like, its a sound, not picture art.

I'll extrapolate this from black metal to really any of metal's sub-genres: If it sounds good, I don't really care where it's from.
