I hear the term "False Metal" used every now and then to describe certain bands. I've heard everything from Slipknot to Daath called this. I would like to know how fellow Metal Storm users define false metal. And what are the requirements to be considered as such? What bands do you consider false metal?

Isn't that why we have genres in metal so that we can split up the types of metal? The question makes no sense.

Whenever an annoying individual uses the term "real metal" or even just "real music", I ask "What? As opposed to imaginary?"

it's defined in the ears of the listener, im assuming by false metal they mean imitators of true metal,

(black sabbath,iron maiden,manowar) bands that started the genre, they believe that NWOBHM or old-school metal is the ONLY metal, and this isn't the first time i heard someone say it. it's commonly used by hardcore fans of old-school metal. those who refuse to let their ideals die.

Yeah, while i can't stand Nu metal, Glam metal, and the "core" sub genres, it's still metal, since it's all about the sound of the music, not what the music stands for.

I would say anything that tries to make metal popular or mainstream. The whole idea of metal was to stray away from society, and bands like avenged sevenfold that are trying to make metal mainstream.

I might not be interested in glam or power stuffs, also I don't like majority of nu metal but still I can't use the terms true or false for them, I just listen to whatever and pick the ones sound interesting to me.

False Metal? You mean metalloid? I know metalloids. A metalloid is a chemical element with properties that are in-between or a mixture of those of metals and nonmetals, and which is considered to be difficult to classify unambiguously as either a metal or a nonmetal. There is no standard definition of a metalloid nor is there agreement as to which elements are appropriately classified as such.
