even official snow mobile roads are 99% safe, but we ride over all and be in ice its always at your own risk, and mid april is my border when I go on the ice
We have one ice road for cars, in Luleå you can drive car to small islands . To get to the town I need cross 6 lakes, by snow mobile and almost all roads cross some water way. I gass as crazy when I cross rivers or big big lakes
When it's Faal's epic four track full-length The Clouds Are Burning.
Many moons ago, my Doom Pusher, Marcel, sent me a package with a bunch of t-shirts, promo materials, and disks. Faal's Abhorrence - Salvation was probably my favorite of the goodies inside.
A couple years later, they have finally followed up the EP with the monstrous album, The Clouds Are Burning. While early in the year, I imagine this will still be near the top of the ridiculous musical goodie bag that is 2012.
Four tracks of unforgiving doom punishment that shifts up tempos from glacial to epic swagger to full on headbanging, all while the members of the band assault you, your family and the girl you took to prom with tons of sonic cold fuzzies.
Very good album, it has all this kinds of things that you find in a funeral doom metal of today. The psycho intentions and emotional harmonies are very enjoyable
This is one of those albums that required numerous listen-throughs before I could get somewhat of a grip on it. That it was good, excellent actually, was evident from very early on however.
The Clouds Are Burning has got a lot of interesting ingredients and is surprisingly diverse despite its rather short duration. There is no shortage of melody and luckily those details are incorporated in a nice way as to not get too prominent. In addition, the shifts in tempo and atmosphere work great, creating a pleasant(?) symbiosis between the slower sections and the more up-tempo ones.
The production could have been slighty clearer in my opinion and it would not have hurt with an additional track but in the end that are just minor gripes for one of my favorite albums of the year so far.
Magnificent! There've been some excellent doom releases this year, with Faal definitely belonging amongst the upper tier of those releases. Faal do an excellent job of injecting a powerful aura of mystery, granting the album an archaic atmosphere. There are tempo shifts and a lot of dynamics involved, and overall, this is an excellent outing. One of my top 10 this year.
I was having a good day, life was enjoyable, smiles everywhere, laughter abundant, just in a good mood...then I played this for the first time...now I want to hang myself. God life sucks. I am cranky. How sad. I put this up there with Arcana Coelestia as the most depressing music I've ever heard.

Weird, this album never depressed me at all.
It does have a suffocating atmosphere for sure but it always uplifted me instead.
If I bothered to listen to the extreme doom candidates, I'd probably end up voting for this anyways since this is one of my favourite doom albums altogether but I don't feel very dooming right now so I am not sure if I'll ever bother.

Not really depressing to me, actually a bit uplifting. I guess it's not odd for people to get different emotional reactions to music
Fuck, this is awesome stuff. Can't believe I only checked it out for the first time just now.
I'm surprised you hadn't checked this out given how much certain people on the site rave about Faal, and generally how similar to your tastes the style is. Definitely an album I should revisit more often, loved it when it came out, loved it the last time I listened to it.

Yeah, I agree with you (about that it's surprising I hadn't checked it out before).
Seriously great album. Going to have to spin it a few times more. As a first impression I'd say it's definitely 8.5-9 material.
Recent death of their guitarist lead me to revisit this after a long time, and I totally forgot how good this album is. Just varied and just short enough to keep me hooked throughout. Softer parts in particular are so soothing.
