Strange how tastes can change over time. I used to dislike Meshuggah, Behemoth, Testament, Sodom and Kreator. And now some of these are my favourite bands! Do any of you have similar experiences of going from thinking a band is terrible, to loving them?

If so: What band(s)? And what do you think it was that changed your mind about them?

I remember hating Primordial ages ago, I couldn't stand the vocals, Then after giving them another try something just clicked, and nowadays Alan is one of my favourite vocalists in metal.

I'm liking them less than I did to begin with I think I listened to Empire Falls too many times and everything else seemed lack-lustre in comparison.

I dig all the vocals, I dig everything about the music completely and totally. Can see why the vocals would put people off of course.

My mind was blown to oblivion from the first listen to TOOH. Can't say the same about Lykathea Aflame, they're still growing on me, slowly.

Angra. Their style was so... well, power-metallishly ridiculous on Angels Cry that I first couldn't stand it... next album I heard was Rebirth and I started to kinda like it, since the songs are deep down actually pretty good. But it was Temple of Shadows that blew my mind and it still is one of my all-time favourite albums.

Pretty much the same thing (on a smaller scale) with Rhapsody, though 'til this day I still can't take them seriously.

I don't know why, I still can't really get into Amon Amarth. It just feels all a bit 'simple' :/.

Simple and raw but efficient. Specially their earlier stuff.

For me, Tool. The first time I heard them I though that it was just noise without any form of structure.

At The Gates

Not really SotS, I always liked that, but their early materials. When I first heard a song off The Red In The Sky Is Ours, I was like, WTF IS THIS CRAP?! It was completely unenjoyable. Then after a while it somehow "clicked" in or idk, maybe I got more receptive towards extreme music and I realized how good those albums are.

I still feel that way about The Red In The Sky Is ours. Found that album very disappointing.

They are shit. Total bagload of shit.

A band that wasn't supposed to be formed with a sheer mediocre albums they dropped in. Atleast for me I guess that makes the "BLS" a fucking never existed band.

Then perhaps you would like to explain why they're in your favourites list?

By Cynic's logic, 90% of music doesn't exist.

Damn, I'd love to live in his world. But the atrocious English grammar would likely drive me away.

I used to dislike lots of stuff, man. But as of recent... been getting to appreciate it.

According to his logic a band that tours and gigs all over the place but does not release an album is an inactive band, a band that split up, has dissolved.

I basically thought the same when I listened to any kind of black metal.

I used to dislike Amon Amarth, Dimmu Borgir, Children of Bodom. Even anything with growling in it. Ensiferum got me into growling. I got into Dimmu Borgir because of an a capella version of Progenies of the great apocalypse on Youtube and their newest album, lol... Later their old work started to sound awesome instead of creepy noise.
I disliked Moonsorrow for 90 % as I only liked their short songs. Now Moonsorrow is one of my top fav bands after having seen them live.
