I'm not really all that into doom metal, but lately I've been discovering several bands that have really piqued my interest with their unique twists on the genre's sound (Yob, Evoken, Esoteric, to name a few). Now I'm not exactly one to judge an album by its cover, but when I saw an album called Advaitic Songs by a band called Om that had a portrait of John the Baptist for the artwork, that inner voice in the back of my head told me that I was in for some truly interesting music. I had high expectations just from looking at the album, and my expectations were met.

assuming it is not dissimilar to their past work, i'm not sure what to say. it's chilled out drum and bass - keep in mind this project was originally the non-Matt Pike 2/3rds of Sleep.

I am not sure if this is even metal, lol. I love long, drawn out passages, but this is borderline boring. The production is fantastic and I love the bass guitar but I am not sure if I dig this. Needs more reps.

Boring? Hell no, this stuff seeps through all your pores. It's been scientifically proven that the human body is incapable of feeling stress when this record is playing within earshot.

Agree... Would never put "Boring" and "Om" in the same post with the only exception being "it's very boring to chill out without my Om cds".

Om nom nom? ... sorry

I'm with teamster though, this sounds more like a psychedelic take on Middle Eastern folk music than metal.

What Joe said about it seeping into your pores, that's very accurate. I found it really easy to listen to. It does drag on a bit in the last two tracks though.

I'm not trying to be a smart or anything, because I don't think it's fair to call it Mid-Eastern, since the first song has an Indian folk in it. I'd call it psychedelc orientel instead.

Very good album me likey.

I associate it with the kind of folk music you get from as far as India to the eastern Mediterranean coast, though to be honest I know little about it. I guess I just lump it all within a similar category which probably isn't very appreciative of its diversity, something you would be more familiar with probably. Oriental sounds like a more accurate description to me.

Places in India like Rajasthan( even deeper in rural areas!) or Kashmir( kashmiri music!) has this folk elements which are highly originated from their in. Though they use more local-based tribal instruments( Sitar?)but I keep listening "Kashmiri" music which exactly resonates from "Addis" song out here.

An excellent album which soothes you alot.
