Powell fucked up while his hamstring pulled off and he clocked 11 secs. Bolt smashing 9.6 sec breaking Olympic record will motivate him in 200m. I was surprised to see BLAKE in the picture( getting silver), he ran his ass off and gotta something that Powel/ Tyson was try to snatch it away. And uhm, dude from America did also a great job by coming 3rd. it was a pretty good race.

Great Britain is the only country (?) of its size and number of people living there performing up to its potential. That is when you look at the numbers of gold medals and total medals in comparison to the total number of people living there.

07.08.2012 - 22:29 Written by Troy Killjoy on 07.08.2012 at 22:22 Australia are currently totally underachieving with only 2 and 22 medals in total. especially considering the sort of sporting nation it is where everywhere participates in sports. They might have a couple of medals more than the Netherlands but we have 5 golds currently and with 16 million people living here we have a little over 5 million less than Australia

There are currently two theories going explaining Australia's poor performance (specifically in regards to swimming): Australian swimming coaches have abandoned their country for more money, and the Australian swim team was distracted by talks of restructuring their earnings based on awards going into the Games. I'm not saying they would have more if either of these problems didn't exist (every athlete is experiencing some distraction or another at this time) but it's still impressive based on their numbers what they've achieved - just not by comparison to prior Olympics. As for the Netherlands, I'd say they're doing a great job as well. Although I agree with your initial comment that Great Britain as a whole is the best "pound for pound fighter" in this year's Olympics. Russia, the United States, China, South Korea... these are all heavily populated countries and it's expected that with the amount of athletes they send they'll rank among the top 5 at the end of the day.

07.08.2012 - 22:48 Written by Troy Killjoy on 07.08.2012 at 22:41 I think our best Olympics were Sydney 2000 where we won 12 gold and came in sixth at the end of the Games.

I don't follow the Olympics much, but I'm almost positive 12 golds in the summer is better than us Canadians have ever done. And we have twice your population.

07.08.2012 - 22:51 Written by Troy Killjoy on 07.08.2012 at 22:41 Germany should be top 5 as well, which they usually are, with their 82 million pepople. France should be in the top as well equal with great Britain, with their 62 million. Spain should be top with 46 and equal to SOuth Korea

Also, the number of athletes isn't based on the countries population... economic strength seems to have a bigger impact.

08.08.2012 - 08:58 Written by Marcel Hubregtse on 07.08.2012 at 23:17 Talent? glass ceiling? corruption? obsolete training centers? unmotivated sportsmanship? I think you're skipping these major potholes. And if you're going by population index, I suppose then India should be ranked 2nd in Medals tally.

08.08.2012 - 11:25 Written by Marcel Hubregtse on 07.08.2012 at 23:17 Honestly I don't think that is the case. Most of the athletes for the Olympics are from a poorer background. I'd say that more than anything else, corruption is something that fucks us over, not to mention that everyone only notices/follows mainly cricket and all the other sports are given so little importance.
