To be a published fiction writer. Sent out my first manuscript and query letter a week ago and got my first rejection letter today. Funny, I saw this post right after I read the letter.

good for you.... its the most accurate modern career test of all time but it is underestimated.

I dream of universal peace and equality, or the closest thing to that. But that is never going to happen in my lifetime... So I'd settle for a nice family, a good career and a peaceful death.

I would like to combine my life with an intellectual and spiritual approach. Thinking how i would enjoy lecturing on a university somewhere abroad. The question if I would have all the energy it takes to aim for an academic career, if a simple bacholor thesis is taking all the enery out of me

And how did they explain why they rejected your work? I'm just asking this because I've thought of becoming a writer as well some day and I just want to know how the things go in this field...

She only said that she was very busy at the moment with other writers and wished me luck. I'll just have to keep trying. Many successful writers have a folder filled with rejection letters before they got lucky.

Well that is the case with finding a rep for anything. The only way to make it work is research agents/publishers and see if they released similar stuff, and then shoot a bunch of personalised mails to each of them. You might send out 100 mails before you get a positive response.
The best thing is to make sure that the agent believes in your work, also a smaller agency makes more sense as they will give more time to all their writers than a big agency like CAA or WME
