Preferably no metalcore (demon hunter, AILD, etc... are out)
I know of theocracy, but the vocals are almost too cheesy for me (and I'm a huge power metal fan). Mortification is another one I'm aware of, but they don't really do it for me. Somthing a little more extreme than theocracy would be good though.

Antestor (black metal), DivineFire (power metal), Crimson Moonlight (black metal), Living Sacrifice (death metal), Becoming The Archetype (prog death/metalcore), Holy Blood (folk/death/black), Klank (industrial metal).

I notice you said no AILD but their last couple albums are pretty damn good and a little on the thrashy side musically if you haven't listened to either of those albums.

7 Horns 7 Eyes! Really interesting death metal. Layers of melody here and there, a bit of modernity, and they're from Seattle so you know they're good.

I second this. The best christian Metal band of all time. If you only pick one, make it this one.

The other really obvious ones are Tourniquet and Believer. Both are Thrash bands that are towards the more technical/progressive end of the genre.

The first few King's X albums were also really good. Virgin Black are good as well.

Theocracy are pretty good, especially Mirror of Souls.
The big one for me was Becoming The Archetype, but their last two albums have been major steps down from the likes of Physics of Fire and Dichotomy.

This. Tourniquet is awesome. [url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iYOaWrAPKpU]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iYOaWrAPKpU/url]

If you're into death/doom, then Paramaecium's album Exhumed of the Earth is great. It's got everything from the faster end of doom all the way down to parts that were as slow as funeral doom.

Those are just a couple. You can go to Wikipedia to find examples of other bands.

Place Of Skulls(doom metal) don't know if they suck since i haven't tried them.. perhaps the more experienced doom fans can comment on them

2010's album As A Dog Returns was a huge hit here on MS, among the "more experienced doom fans" as well. They had a successful time at the 2010 Dutch Doom Days as well I believe.

I didn't love the album, but I can see why so many doomsters did. Worth checking out if you want some doom that's a bit different!

Haha good one! Still doesn't count though... lol

And has anyone said Flyleaf yet? Their first albums were pretty metal-y, and then their latest too happened, and they're still good, just very acoustic and peaceful. Also, I heard Lacey left so I don't even know what they're going to do now.

As a Christian myself, I listen to quite a lot. You're right about a lot of bands being pretty bad, but here are some that I'd recommend (a lot of these have been mentioned already):

-Theocracy (prog-power)
-Divinefire (power with some growls here and there)
-Anything else that Divinefire singer Christian Rivel/Liljegren has ever done, though Divinefire is the best
-Tourniquet (prog-thrash; early stuff is closer to straight thrash, later stuff has more classical influence)
-Believer (prog-thrash)
-Extol (prog-death, though every album is different; Burial has some black elements, Undeceived has a bit less, Synergy is essentially tech-thrash and The Blueprint Dives I've heard described as Porcupine Tree, Muse and Cult of Luna put together)
-Antestor (black; early stuff is death-doomy, The Forsaken is melodic black and the new one sounds kinda boring to me)
-A Hill to Die Upon (blackened death with the best growls I've ever heard)
-Lengsel (progressive/experimental black)
-Becoming the Archetype (progressive death/metalcore)
-As I Lay Dying (I know, no metalcore, but An Ocean Between Us is really good)
-Stryper (glam/traditional, obviously not to everyone's taste)
-Vengeance Rising (thrash; I've heard them described as the Christian Slayer)
-Crimson Moonlight (intense melodic black/death)
-Paramaecium (death-doom)
-Immortal Souls (melodic death)
-Harmony (prog-power)
-Deliverance (thrash; went a bit proggy later on)
-Impellitteri (speed/shred)
-Rob Rock (Impellitteri singer's solo project; traditional/power)
-Pantokrator (death)
-Mortification (death; don't go for anything after Post Momentary Affliction)
-Renascent (melodic blackened death)
-Cage (the continuation of Painkiller)
-Veni Domine (epic doom)
-Seventh Angel (thrash/doom; believe it or not, this combination exists)
-Sacrificium (death)
-Benea Reach (progressive metalcore)
-Virgin Black (gothic doom)

Stuff that's hard to find/bands that have barely released anything:

-Schaliach (melodic death/doom duo)
-Vardøger (black)
-Wintersoul (Crimson Moonlight turned up to eleven)
-Monotheist (progressive death)
-Mantric (weird project in the vein of Extol's last album)
-Grave Declaration (melodic black)
-Majestic Vanguard (flower metal)
-Evroklidon (black)

And who could forget that most famous of Christian thrash bands, Testament?

Well, that's about all I can think of. Some well known ones and some underground ones. Pretty much everything on there is YT-able, but a lot would be very difficult (if not impossible) to get hold of on CD. If you're still after more and don't know where to look, the annals of my Last.fm library might be a good place to start.
