I have no arms..
Its literally been years since their debut album 'Ashes'. and to say that I was looking forward to their new album 'Revelations' would be a drastic understatement. This album didnt meet my expectations, but for the first time I found my expectations were exceeded on every level.

Hailing from Yorkshire their MDB influences are undeniable, and they released their debut through the Black Doom label. At the time I was blown away by this album and thought a great band were definately in the making, however I felt they could have made more of the clean vocals (courtesy of Matt Lawson). However, their new album answers all my prayers, with a lot more sorrowful clean vocals from a voice that seems to be stronger and more confident.

Also, The Prophecy seem to specialise in spectacular guitar solos which sometimes take them away from doom genre but thats what makes them exciting. When I first heard the solo on the track 'The Prophecy' from their debut album I didnt think it could get any better as it encompassed pretty much all the feelings of loneliness and desolation etc you expect within a doom band. However, the guitar work in the new title track 'Revelations' matches (if not exceeds) this!

Honestly there is not a bad track on this album, personally my favourite tracks are 'Revelations' which I expect will become something of a legend amongst fans, however other standout tracks include 'Cascades' and also 'Rivers' which can be heard on their myspace page (http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=38876044). For me this is definately album of the year, although so far the year has been pretty unimpressive with new releases.

Has anyone else heard their new album? I don't think its out in shops yet, I only managed to get it by ordering direct from the band (in fact its the first music cd I've paid for in about 5 years...Still, worth every penny!)

Good news for any Prophecy fans, according to their MySpace page, 'So far reviews have been flooding in. But as with all The Prophecy related its now time to think about the new album. We will be going into the studio to record 'Into the light' hopefully very soon.'

Can't wait!

And there seem to be many fans.. no replies in 2 months. Let me be first.

Listening to their MySpace, 'Rivers'.

And this is quite ok. I'll download some stuff of them, since I don't like using MySpace all the times. Thanks, and I hope my post got this thread a bit more attention.

Got an email from the band today, album 'Into the Light' officially comes out 20th February.

Anyone else excited about this or am I still the only one? Keen to see how their sound progresses, one of the unmastered songs on their myspace seems more like straight forward detal metal, i'm hoping they retain some of their doomy sound.

I liked their previous album so I am interested in hearing this one as well.

Ashes is a great album, these guys are extremely talented.
Revelations is in my top 3 list of cd's. The melodies, the vocals, the entire songs are soul-piercing. Amazing stuff, on cd's as well as live.
I'm really looking forward to their next cd 'Into the Light', but I doubt they will be able to top Revelations.

Should find out in 10 days! I've heard a couple of unmastered samples online and haven't made up my mind, still you can't really judge an album on a couple of poor quality clips. Ashes was fantastic and they manage to supercede that so I haven't given up hope just yet.

Exactly.
I even made a PayPal account to be able to order it right away, haha! I doubt it will be widely distributed overseas.

I haven't listened to the samples yet and I can't recall any songs played during live shows from the upcoming album. I really want to be suprised by the release, as they have suprised so many times.

Maybe Displeased will carry it or else http://www.psychedoomelic.com they at least still have Revelations and Ashes. Psychedoomelic is a great label/distro with primarily doom. Service is prompt and courteous. Once they have the payment in they will ship a.s.a.p. It is possible to pay via bank transfer there.

Thanks for the recommendation.
I have placed an order already though, at an English store. Don't really know them, so I hope it will all go well.
If the order fails, I will definatly try the stores you mentioned.

Can't wait for it to come in! Only like a week or so! (hopefully)

Anyone else given the new album a play yet? I listened to it yesterday (excessively for about 5 plays) and couldn't make my mind up about it.

I think the thing was 'Revelations' was quite an album to top and instantly had some very memorable songs such as the self-titled track with its epic guitar solo and also 'Rivers', this album however has taken me a lot longer to get into. Originally I wasn't too keen on the faster paced tracks such as 'Belief means nothing' but the mix of different tempos has grown on me. As for vocals, with the recent demise of Warning, I think Matt Lawson now has some of the best clean vocals going for a doom band. As for whether or not this beats 'Revelations' i'm undecided, but i'm certainly not disappointed.

Also, I can't believe they used to support My Dying Bride - after hearing their most recent album it should be the other way around!

Here the jury is still out in the middle concerning the latest one. I find it to have too many gothicy parts at times and at other times I think that that is perfect.

As for The Prophecy supporting MDB... I think the reason is clear as to why that is. MDB is infinitely bigger (albeit crappier as well nowadays) than The Prophecy.

Yeah, the only way to gain fame is by touring with well-known bands and getting your music played in front of a broad audience. So it is easy to see why The Prophecy plays are supporting My Dying Bride.

I've been listening to the album for a little more then a week now and I agree with Tony, it does takes more effort to get into the album. I've found they seem to have gotten a more darker sound compared to Revelations. There are also less technical solos in the songs, compared to their previous album, just listen to the song Revelations, the ending is last half of the song is like a major solo.
As for the vocals, I agree Matt is using his amazing clean vocals more and it sounds awesome.

The new album will take me more listens to get into, but for now, they haven't really topped Revelations. But maybe they will after a few more spins.

The touring comment wasn't particularly serious, more a cheap dig at MDB, I know they're the ones with the fame but The Prophecy supporting would blow them out the water nowadays!

Yep, I miss the big guitar solos, and whilst the new guitar work is still good, it seems more riff orientated and takes away from what originally made them stand out so much.
