You know the drill. Here's some rather fine sounding Cthulhu driven death metal that's not due for release until 2013, with extraordinarily beautiful cover artwork (check out the detail in the full image):

That looks almost like a Broness cover! One would almost scream ripp-off.

What is weird about it looking like that?

Just like Kvelertak's first album the cover artwork for this one is done by Baizeley, guess what? He also does Baroness artwork and plays in Baroness

Just homework boy, just homework

Problem with today's day and age of the internet and ILLEGAL downloading. Back in the day when I was still young, so a long long long long time ago, we would read all the liner notes on the inside sleeve of an album and go through the entire thankslist and the listing who mixed/mastered/produced/recorded it and who did the artwork and lay-out and such.

Now peopel just download without taking those small details into account and hence coming to the conclusion someone ripped someone else off when in fact it is the same artists or a song is a cover and such things

I remember those days. But with the advent and popularization of mp3 players allowing everybody to carry ALL their hundreds (or thousands in mine and others cases ) of albums around in their pocket it's just too easy to not care about having a physical copy anymore. I pirate AND buy but I never buy physical anymore because I don't want to have to find somewhere to store something I'm never going to use once I've ripped it into my computer. I still appreciate the artwork but I don't feel the need to be able to hold it and touch it anymore. But more power to those (both old and young) who still want to buy physical copies of albums in both CD and/or vinyl formats.

Apparently you're missing the point of my post here due to me higlighting "illegal". Let me post here what I posted on facebook:

Okay I am an old fart so bear with me...
But a more or less interesting thought just crossed my mind and it has to do with "illegal" downloading.
I don't want to go into the downloading is bad for artists or not monetary question and all btw.
What I just noticed was that someone just accused Kvelertak's newest album cover being a rip off of the Baroness artwork clearly not realizing it is the same artist. In my opinion it has to do with the donwloading where people don't download/read liner notes, thanks lists, who recorded it, produced it, mixed it, mastered it, did the cover art, did the lay-out and such. Whereas back in the day we would read all that on the inner sleeve of the album while playing it.
For me, at least, it was an integral part of an album's first spin.
And imo that is also the reason loads of people don't recognize a cover song when they hear one.

My point is that donwloading is also the death of information behind every aspect of the recording, be it who wrote what, recorded/mixed etc what, did the artowrk who is on the thanks list (always a good pointer for influences and such)
Like I said at the end HELL most people don't even know there are cover songs on the album.

No, I understood that completely. I'd say you're message is 200% clear, I was simply agreeing with you and indicating the cause of the decline in people knowing the information from the booklets is because a lot of us young bucks don't care about the physical aspect of owning music anymore so we have lost touch with knowing all the little details outlined in the booklets. It just so happens that the root cause of your complaint DOES tie into piracy.

If I buy something, sure I'll check those details, but I didn't even listened to this album yet. The similarity struck me with the work on tho cover arts. Now I know why.

Hmmm, I wouldn't agree completely with your statement.
If I find a certain aspect of the album good, be in the artwork or the production, I like to find out more about it. And this being the internet everything is available online.
Regarding artwork, I know who did the artwork of bands I listen to and albums I like, but then this could be coz I love the artwork as much as the music.

The only thing I miss is the thanks list. I generally enjoy reading those liner notes

You takin 'bout me bro!

Nope. I can assure you that for the music that interest me, I check those details (except for the thank yous. I couldn't give any less of a shit about those). Now that being said, if you re-read my post, I didn't accuse anybody of anything. I was implying it might be the case, but since I didn't have the data (and in that case didn't really bother searching for it) I did not make rip-off accusations.

but even Stevie Wonder and Ray Charles could see that the artwork was clearly done by Baizley Or if one doesn't know the artist, that it was done by the same artist. Who btw happens to do artwork for loads more bands as well.

A local one-man-band I had no idea about until I saw their latest album on the internet. Post/Atmospheric black that sounds very Neige-ish.

Yes, he said he took the cover artwork from a videogame. Silent Hill, maybe? I remember that image from somewhere...
