You know the drill. Here's some rather fine sounding Cthulhu driven death metal that's not due for release until 2013, with extraordinarily beautiful cover artwork (check out the detail in the full image):

I just don't get what's going on here. An album of "jazz standards" covered.... covered in black metal. Just listen to it and be confused.

Yeah I tried this a couple of hours ago and it didn't do much for me. I was hoping for a bit more with its nice artwork and avant-garde tags. Might appeal to others though.

This one's the solo project of Forefather's Athelstan. Been fairly attached to it over the past few days but I think it would benefit from more vocals as it's mostly just instrumental. Dependable pagan/folk guitarwork though:

I had no clue what to expect but I'd say I was pleasantly surprised. I gave it a 7.8 on My 2013 List, I think that's a fair score (if not a tad generous)

I tried looking for this an hour ago but couldn't find it. Clearly not looking hard enough. This sounds hella psychedelic. And love that album art. Damn, their previous record's art work is ever better.

Yuppe! You can tell you're in for quite a treat. And boy do they deliver.

Yeah I really liked the album a lot. Will definitely be giving that more attention in the future (and maybe my money).

I buy stuff every now and then mostly second hand though because I'm a skinflint. I certainly wouldn't pay for a digital download though.

O RLY? I never thought you bought anything at all. Also, nothing wrong with second hand if the stuff looks good. A not-so-small portion of my collection is second hand.
I take a guess you are too lazy to add them to the database though. How many are we talking about? 3 digits?

Yeah I mostly just go through old albums I know and love and pick them up if I find them cheap. Naturally I know it's not helping out the artist in question when buying second hand though, and to be honest most of the stuff I get just sits in a pile. It's definitely over 3 digits, but a lot of it is at my house in Canterbury so I'm not exactly sure how many. I'll get around to adding it all to the database one day.

Indeed! Though I have been a bit better buying brand new with that recently (but then that's because I've gotten sick of waiting for them to appear second hand )

Bam. Some proper quality, ballsy sounding death metal. Much better than the disappointing Vorum debut.

How about posting something constructive to the thread? If you don't like sludge, you don't have to listen to it.

No Tanner, you need to post recommendations that are under the guidelines, namely "no sludge"... oh wait... never-mind, that's fucking bullshit. Also good find, quite enjoying that album

Eh, never listened to them. According to their profile they are symphonic sludge, which explains why I've never listened to them; sludge is not my cup o' tea. But that's good info for anybody else who is familiar with or a fan of The Ocean so thanks for identifying that.

Brand new album by brand new band. If this doesn't make the next CC or Staff Pick, Fogg be mad. Seriously it's heavy, ambiant and trippy as hell.

Eight Bells - The Captain's Daughter

Cool. This doesn't sound that different from Aluk Todolo's Occult Rock album. Very jam-like and trippy.
