I'm gonna start this out by saying that I am pretty drunk, but I am coherent enough to start this topic; or at least I think I am. If this topic has already been made, please feel free to merge it with the pre-existing topic or delete it by itself.

I have been in a Dio mood lately, not Dio the band itself, but the voice of Dio. I have been listening to Mob Rules, Heaven & Hell, and Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow on constant basis for the last few months. After many listens the lyrical styling of Ronnie James Padlova has a few bits that seem to ruin the song with its cheesy factor.

I have to admit upfront that Ronnie does have a huge cheese factor, but his vocal delivery and the way he sings with passion is usually enough to turn a mediocre song into something listenable (I.E. Lady Evil) but sometimes he has lyrics that ruin a song or a portion of a song for me.

I love Heaven & Hell (I've probably listened to it 3-5 hundred times in the past two months) but when he sings 'You got to bleed for the dancer' it just makes me cringe. I cringe when he first sings it and I cringe again when he sings it after the 'the sun is just the moon at night part". I love the acoustic ending to the song, but usually I just skip to the next song after he sings it a second time.

T.V. Crimes is another bad ass song that just requires additional listening. However, the 'jack and jill went up the hill rhyme' scheme just ruins the song horribly and I cut it off at the end when Dio just repeats the chorus. I know that's not the exact wording, but those who know the song should know what I mean.

So what lyrics of your favorite songs \ bands make you cringe?

(P.S. This is not a thread to bash flower power metal, as the whole vocals and lyrics of that genre are enough to turn a 3-4 minute song into lasting forever)

Sorry for going off topic, but what is it with all the people posting drunk on MS? Why are you on the internet when you're drunk and not partying or something?

99% of ALL metal has lyrics that make one cringe. For good lyrics one should not listen to metal, it's as simple as that

"the sun is just the moon at night" I think you were pretty drunk to misplace "moon" and "sun", it's "the moon is just the sun at night"

Anyway like MH said there are lots of bad lyrics in metal, but I can think of one that is especially bad, from Amon Amarth's "Victorious March":

"No man has spared, no house or farm remains
No Christian woman unraped, their church consumed by flames"

The liner notes don't have "unraped" in them but listen to the song and you will hear it quite clearly. Along with gramatically horrid stuff like "ten heavy feet walks the icy snow" this is AA's worst song lyricswise. Can't say the same about the music

they sing/wrote No man HAS spared? WOW.
Non-native lyric writers should always have their lyrics checked by native speakers of the language they write in.

The no woman unraped is grammatically correct though. All they did was leave out "left" from that sentence, probably because of the flow of the song.
No Christian woman left unraped, would have been totally correct

I don't see your problem with "unraped" though.
Check my post just above yours as to why there is no problem with that.

I agree with you. Dio DOES have some really cheesy lyrics that can negatively affect my opinion of his music, especially on The Last In Line album. The funny thing is that I actually think Heaven & Hell is an example of a song with great lyrics! "Sing me a song, you're a singer. Do me a wrong, you're a bringer of evil." The way that line is delivered in the song is top class!

As for what favourite band lyrics make me cringe: Megadeth - Public Enemy Number One. The lyrics sound amateur and the song gives me the impression that Mustaine had a tough time trying to get it to rhyme. I wouldn't list them as a favourite of mine, but the lyrics of Manowar's "Die For Metal" are terrible. Espescially the part when he say "gave me a beer" - SUPER CRINGE

huh I tend to disagree .. I mean yes a lot of metal bands write shit lyrics ..

but..

Agalloch (eg. you were but a ghost in my arms), Dark tranquillity's (eg.Lethe) Be'Lakor (eg In Parting) Swalow the sun (eg Cathedral walls) Primordial (eg the Coffin Ships) are just some bands that pop up in my mind which have good, sometimes great lyrics most of the time, imo.

I feel the same about Dio lyrics; makes me wander how he could possibly have written them while thinking they were so deep and clever (the "tiger" pops into my mind: "you can see its stripes but you know it's clean". Mmm... right...)

Same goes for late Manowar lines, though those guys used to be pretty good, back in the 90's (or maybe I was just young?). Rhapsody is awful too, no surprise there, but it applies to a lot of Italian bands as well. And German. And French.

Also, check out that brilliant one, from Sweden's Dream Evil:"The only thing I want is what my parents don't" - the words of a rebel at heart! ...and further : "I die to become immortal, that's why i play the guitar" No wonder they're named after a Dio album.

Now on the opposite, among my favorites: Skyclad, Cradle Of Filth and Savatage.

Wtf's wrong with metal Lyrics Marcel lol

whats wrong with this:

*Auschwitz, the meaning of pain the way that I want you to die
Slow death, immense decay showers that cleanse you of your life
Forced in, Like Cattle you run, Stripped of your life's worth
Human mice for the angel of death four hundred thousand more to die
Angel of death Monarch to the kingdom of the dead*

or

*Running down the backstreets the noon is full and high
You feel your body start to sweat someone's about to die
You turn around and run its the only thing to do
Someone's about to die and that someone is you
You hear the creature's hooves start echoe through your brain
You fear the demon's hellish howl it makes you go insane
You smell the creature's fowl stench laced with death and waste
Don't lose your mind he's right behind breathing fire in your face*

or

*Ideals pounded, what's wrong is right, Churches founded with heaven in sight
Do unto them as they tell you to, how can the children believe this is true
Faith decided out of the womb, slapped into life and then slapped in your tomb
When will it end? When will the lying stop?
Burn our thoughts they can change our minds, hear pathetic lies
Put to end all the empty cries now it's Eye for I.
Hate churning your face, consumed by fear, unreal illusion of the perfect world
Twist into form, the true abyss, crushed in the palm of fate's hands.*

Maybe its not the most deep lyrics but its well written imo

I don't really see the point of necessarily implementing "deep" lyrics within metal songs and to be honest I think most of the time it's because of the people who interpret the lyrics their way, and give it an implication of something far more larger and bigger than the picture. Of course, it is different when you can relate to it but giving lyrics a depth far deeper than what it meant...kinda gets you nowhere. You'll be stuck in a limbo where you're having a hard time grasping the whole idea but at the same time, getting an idea that is abstract and puzzled. Sometimes it's better not to devote yourself to interpreting the lyrics deeply. At least that's what I think.

as for the question you've asked: I find the lyrics for Celtic Frost - A Dying God Coming Into Human Flesh to be chilling and scary sometimes.

I even find the Dutch original hilarious because it is totally nonsensical. And the weird thing is in Dutch we ALSO use the phrase "struck by lightning"

Kamelot's Epica is one of my favorite albums of all time, but "A place we all would like to go tuh (to)" from the second verse of "Center of the Universe" makes me cringe. At least just say "A place we all would like to go" if you can't come up with anything better there.

"Fly away down the lonely roads of yesterday" from Dragonforce's "Trail of Broken Hearts" is also worth mentioning.

I've had one desire since I was born
To see my body ripped and torn
To see my flesh devoured before my eyes
I'm here for you I volunteer as a human sacrifice

Carve me up, slice me apart
Suck my guts, lick my heart
Chop me up I like to be hurt
Drink my marrow and blood for dessert
EATEN... My one desire, my only wish is to be--
EATEN... The longer I live the more I'm dying to feel the pain
EATEN... I would do anything to be--
EATEN... My one desire, my only wish is to be--
EATEN...

I finally found you, my personal slaughter
As an appetizer, I let you taste my daughter
Call me sick but this is what I need
My only purpose here is for you to feed

Desecrate me
Tear me limb from limb
Eviscerate me
Chew me to death

haha I guess you misinterpreted me, this :" Call me sick but this is what I need " is part of the lyrics, and on a side note I should say it's about two years I dig more brutal death and it became one of my fav genre, but I never take their lyrics theme seriously and actually I don't read them because I don't care about it I enjoy the music.
