Most Talented Vocalists In Metal

My other lists:
Tasty Stuff Not Currently Featured On MS
So I Heard You Like Opeth...

A concise list of my metalhead man-crushes (now featuring ladies.)

While there is little introduction required for some of these bands and their front(wo)men, there are no words that can accurately describe such jaw-dropping talent anyhow. The albums and youtube links listed are meant to display the full capacity of vocalists' talents, not the bands' most quality or popular tracks - click the links below and behold the prowess.

Many tears will be shed on your behalf if your favourite vocalist isn't here. That being said, any suggestions are more than welcome. A star (★) indicates that the vocalist is exceptionally versatile. If you believe that a certain vocalist deserves a (currently unaccredited) star, then post a few YouTube tracks to support your case.

Avoided criteria:
- Consistency with live performances
- Emotional delivery
- Ability to write aurally appealing vocal lines
- Ability to compliment the music

i.e. The style performances are judged solely on technical ability.

Here are the tracks I've allocated to the vocalists so far in the order of the list below. If you have suggestion which better showcases any vocalist's talents or if any of the link aren't working, please let me know.

Quite an assumption you've made there. In the first place, I've never properly listened to Bathory so I hold no conviction in that regard. Secondly, if you can prove to me that they have a decent vocalist he'll certainly end up on this list; find me his best performance.

Also I wouldn't waste my time hating on mundane creations like lists

great vocalist indeed especially on the first two Skid Row albums

although he went through a kind of downfall, and recently some of his live shows don't sound as good as he was, but still that voice and singing style of him is so impressive and inspirational especially as you said in the first two albums of Skid Row

I had a listen about a month ago and quite enjoyed the music although the only vocals I remember were growls - any suggestions for specific songs?

I won't deny that he's a good vocalist but there are a few problems with adding him. Firstly, there already vocalists on this list who can do what he does and much more so it would be counter-intuitive to a most talented list :S Also if I add him I have to add the horde of vocalists who sounds just like him, of which there are many.

anyway as you wish, but I don't know who else sound like him, because he's really spectacular, BTW I don't know really how Riverside vocalist can be considered as a talented one! He's actually one of those very very common voices with such simple style, I DON'T know what makes him talented !

Was just wondering... what do you think about Leprous' latest album, "Coal"?
For me, it's Einar Solberg's best performance, and one of my favourite vocal performances of all time.
EDIT: As for a song from it, if that's what you want, I'd recommend "The Valley."

Relax Riverside's vocalist is talented just like Wolverine's vocalist is so; they both have wonderful clean voices. Mariusz's brilliant transitions from clean to scream just gives him an edge where he lacks in other areas. He performs much better on clean vox in Shrine Of The New Generation Slaves - check out "Feel Like Falling" - but since it didn't meet the criteria for displaying all talents, it was excluded from consideration.

Also Sebastian sounds like every other decent heavy/power metal singer out there. He's simply using vocal fry to enhance his singing, many vocalist on my list do that already and use it in a more versatile manner than he does. I don't delve into those genres so I wouldn't be able to provide an example.

I love how you try and make it sound as if there are some objective criteria as to whether or not a vocalist is talented/good or not. When, in fact, just like with which bands are good or not, it is all in the eyes (in this case, of course, ears) of the beholder.

Not sure if it's suggested or not. Try esoteric

No offence, but I find your suggestions absolutely hilarious. Why? Because LeKiwi obviously isn't interested in doom metal vocalists, as is clear just by looking at the vocalists that he has chosen for this list. I know this is annoying since I said it many times, but the lack of vocalists like Patrick Walker or Aaron Stainthorpe (yes Marcel, I know he can be whiny but he's still a great vocalist ) is kind of baffling to me. I also know I said I'd help in finding the right songs, which I tried, but I think you (LeKiwi) are looking for songs that simply don't exist.

And yet you haven't added Patrick Walker who is totally unique and sounds like no-one who is already on this list. What I'd like to add as well is that you are clearly looking for variety, but many vocalists on this list don't growl at all, so then different vocal styles suddenly isn't an issue anymore it seems.

Whilst it's his choice to put who he wants in the list, it is currently slightly misleading as it's not a "concise" list as genres are clearly being missed out here. Missing out on doom does devalue the list quite significantly.

That's why my list is about talent not being "good". Quality is a subjective matter whereas talent is not

Yeah, but he said the list is objective and that's what I have a problem with because it is actually a highly subjective list, especially seeing the stars that apparently indicate the exceptional vocalists. In reality, the word "exceptional" can be changed into "favourite" and then it would make sense. But as of now, it's obviously a compilation of mainly his own favourites, which would be fine if the list was meant to be personal.

I don't believe my description notes a requirement for versatility, although that a rather weighted consideration. If the vocalist clearly superior at a particular vocal style then I'll add him, i.e. Stefan from Wolverine.

Even what one deems talent is a highly subjective matter. For one it already varies a lot from genre to genre.

Not at all. If the style is easy to perform, it requires little talent. Simple as that

Even though it's not specifically in your description, you have mentioned multiple times that a vocalist needs to be versatile. But now you're basically indirectly saying that you don't think Patrick Walker is superior at his particular vocal style?
