Ok, so before I start spewing off my meaningless opinions into the blogosphere and acting like people should read them, I must admit something about the piece I am about to write. I am like Avenged Sevenfold's high school girlfriend. We had a blast on our first date (Waking The Fallen), and made love all night for a while (City Of Evil). Then he stopped buying me a lot of nice stuff, but he really still loved me (Avenged Sevenfold). At one point, I thought he cheated on me with commercial rock, but he really didn't (Nightmare). I will probably always love Avenged Sevenfold, and may be the most biased person to speak of this; however, if a band I'm dating releases crap, I'll say it's crap. With that being said, I consider their latest release, Hail To The King, make-up sex.

Interested to see how sugary it actually is, considering the amount he says some tracks aren't...

For those that are interested. It's streaming on iTunes and it can be viewed on youtube in full (until it is removed).

Still hate the album art, complete rip off of Overkill & Lich King's mascot.

Pretty much matches the music then.

I was pleasantly surprised, really. First half is pretty poor, but the last half is better. Best song is Acid Rain which isn't metal in the slightest, but I like it's style.

Other decent tracks are Heretic, Coming Home (sounds like Maiden) and Planets (unusual sounding for A7X).

EDIT: Also, production is much nicer than the previous, which just felt completely flat. There is a bit more of a bite in this one.

I listened to the whole album when it was streaming online and was pleasantly surprised, especially after the gigantic disappointment that Bullet For My Valentine delivered. This is my one of my favorite albums of this year for sure.

Edit. Never realized I wrote "pleasantly surprised" just as Vieira did. Weird.

I think i'll giving back my rating. listening "this means war" by now. as you can easly recognize, it's the same as "sad but true" and i can say drawing inspiration is up to a point. but stealing is not good.

It's similar riffs sure, but i wouldn't call it stealing - it's not like Metallica have a trademark on it.

You can just call it a poor imitation. The riff is similar, but it's nowhere near close enough to call it stealing.

Also, is it just me that thinks Shadows should sing in the pantomime Bruce Dickinson style vocals that he does on Coming Home more often?

To me, they just tried to make a Tribute Album of their favourites bands.

Iron Maiden, Metallica, Dream Theater, etc.. everything is here!

That's pretty much what I'm hearing as well... I don't know how to feel about it though. I feel like I'd rather have them show me what THEY have to offer, rather than what others have offered them.

A friend of mine says this is one of their best albums (he's a fan of these guys). I've listened to it and I'm thinking "What's he mean, "One of"? I like it more than anything else they've done!"

My only complaint is the lack of any real track that screams live set material to me. However, it's consistently enjoyable and I didn't get bored listening to it, so credit to them there!

My sister, who's been a fan of this band for quite some time, say she didn't like this album. Would that be an indication of anything?

Pretty average to be honest.
A nice one for those who like the style of 80s classic-metal and rock, however it seems like the band has regressed from previous releases.
Too much imitation. Not enough originality.
Musically, it's catchy but has little substance.

...So yeah, average album. The last two releases have started to make me worry about the future of this band...

This is the record of the year for me. At least since Iced Earth decided to postpone their release until 2014. Brilliant melodies, great sound and vocals are the best he's delivered so far. There are some pretty obvious hints about their favorite bands (Metallica, GnR) but they are made with good taste.
