We all know the story by now. Following the disbanding of Celtic Frost after the widely-hailed Monotheist, metal torchbearer Thomas Fischer announced the formation of Triptykon, a new project that would be dedicated towards continuing on in the vein of the final Celtic Frost album. The band's Eparistera Daimones debut showed a glimpse of Fischer's remaining committment to writing ominous, crushing music. Now, in 2014, Melana Chasmata cements it.

Haven't really listened to their debut since its release but I'm pretty excited for this one.

Imo this is better than Eparistera, which was quite good but sometimes meandered too much. This one has a tighter and stronger songwriting, it's more varied, there are no unfitting songs like My Pain, and Waiting is a perfect albeit unusual closer. I'll buy it for sure.

Can't say I remember what the first album really sounds like, think I only listened to it once, but aside from the fact this one is a bit on the long side; tracks 6 and 8 don't add an awful lot musically to a 67 minute long record, this is, all things considered, a pretty damn fine album.

Been digging this one even better than their debut and Monotheist. Seems like the sound on Triptykon has finally matured. Vanja has a very soothing voice, feeling bad that they did not use it on the previous work. Would've worked much better than Simone Vollenweider vocals, in my opinion. The only minus I can find is the harsh vocals, not my cup of tea. But, nevertheless, an album worthy of no.1. Tom Warrior ever since the Apollyon days did not musicaly disappoint and ever since Monotheist, the guy seems to be inspired more than in his prime time.

It is an excellent album, though I prefer the band's debut album by a margin. There are some added touches to this album, like the female vocals which although existed on the band's debut, are more prevalent and prominent on this album. The band's general sound hasn't changed much but it's still brilliantly depressing and miserable, as all good music which includes Thomas Gabriel Fischer usually is. "Breathing" is the definite highlight for me.

I don't know how many times Tom will try to re-invent "Monotheist" but as long as he keeps it comming, I'm a happy Panda! Its just pure Darkness man, everything about Melana Chasmata sends chill to my spine, everything since the Rispid fast Dirty Thrash riffs to the more Melancholic sludge/Doom songs, it has a little bit of everything for everyone.

Its a perfect 10 for me and quite honestly one of the best records this year so far.

Good stuff, but can't say I'm impressed a whole lot. Maybe it needs more spins or it's just not my cup of tea.

Doesn´t this album cover look similar to a H. R. Giger´s work?

It does... because it is ! As you might have noticed, a lot of Celtic Frost and Triptykon art is taken directly from Giger (the artwork of Melana is called Mordor VII).

Also, I really have to buy this.

So far, after a few listenings, I do prefer the previous full length "Eparistera Daimones".
This last album is different (and I appreciate a lot that Tom Warrior always produces different albums), and maybe I need more time to understand it completely, but I dont think my evaluation will increase.

A good album, in the same vein as the first one. Although I enjoy it enough to not regret buying it, it's far from the masterpiece that Monotheist is. But hey, it's Triptykon not Celtic Frost...

Not something I'd buy but I didn't mind the first half of this.
The sound is pretty evil and the riffs sound big. A lot of the songs stand out on their own but some ideas repeat too much (results in an overlong album). In fact it gets a bit tedious mid way through.
At times it does sound like modernised 1980s Celtic Frost which is fine with me!
The useage of female vocals was especially well done.
Some more speedier moments would have been welcome especially to break it up a bit especially the latter half of the album.

Personally, it seems to be the best thing Tom Fischer has ever done. Given how little I like Celtic Frost that probably isn't surprising, but I also wasn't fond of Triptykon's debut. This album on the other hand just really hits the spot.

I think I'm enjoying this album even more than the previous one to be honest. This is one hell of an experience, Demon Pact is just haunting.

This is not completely my cup of tea, but I can understand why people love this stuff. It sounds a bit sludge-doom like. I suppose it's great if you're into that kind of thing.

Mesmerised by the song "Boleskine House" and the opening track is killer. But overall, a little bit too EMO for my tastes. Good album, but not really my style.

Vanja barely gave some backing vocals on the last track. All the other female vocals are done by Simone.

Blackened thrash is pretty common. Check out Destroyer 666, Absu (especially 'Abzu' my favourite from the genre). Triptykon has always been a hard one to categorise. The words doom, goth and avant-garde pop up a lot. Not sure I'd call them thrash though, although old Celtic Frost certainly fell under that umbrella.
