Stu is so extremely reliable when it comes to performing live.. however, Barlow made Iced Earth something else with his dramatic approach. The energy is still there but I miss the drama. =)

I save the drama for my mamma!
But seriously the dramatic vocals have always been the downfall of Barlowe's vox, for me...That's why Greeley is my man!

I was thinking more about the live performance but I guess his vocals added quite a lot to that. Barlow completely outperformed Greely on Alive in Athens.. both the high and the low parts. The re-recordings, however, aren't on par with the original recording of NotS so I guess Greely did something right.
The concert last night was amazing. A bit short imo, but then again i'm a rabid Iced Earth fan so my expectations are quite high. Anyway, to hear epic 7/8 minute songs that haven't seen light of day for quite some years like Angels Holocaust (played straight after Dystopia!!), Damien(I noticed they left on the stage just the bassist and the drummer and was all like "no, it can't be fucking Damien.. that's their only song with a bass intro!") or When the Night Falls was absolutely amazing. Schaffer reciting the spoken part on "Damien" was especially epic.
Out of the new songs imo the one that sounded the best was Dark City. Dante's Inferno was obviously the total highlight of the night, I sang along to all the lyrics, did air guitar and I can't really recall when was the last time I banged my head so hard. Even Stu was doing windmills on stage. Great voice, great attitude, great energy.
I almost caught one of Schaffer's guitar picks, which would surely have made for an incredible memory seeing as he's my favorite guitarist in the world.
At the end of the night they played their namesake song with the screen in the back going through all their album's covers. Epic doesn't even begin to describe this show.
Seems that Greece lucked out with setlists, as Iced Earth played their longest setlist of the tour there... check this out!

4. Slave to the Dark
5. V
6. Stand Alone
7. When the Night Falls

Ten Thousand Strong in Athens!
Stu sings this one much better than Matt, I have to say. Although Tim still sings it best!
And another recently added song to the setlist, Watching Over Me. xD

I am aware of that lol
They played 2 nights in Greece at different venues. The first night was when they played a 20 song setlist, on the second night, they played 17. They did play 18 songs on the opening night of the tour in Germany, but since then, most of the sets have been shortened to around 14 songs. "Ten Thousand Strong" was played once at the Antwerp show, but then was dropped in favour of "The Last Laugh", until the first Greek show, when it was put in the set again. (and has since been dropped again)
In the beginning I had my doubts with Stu as their new singer, but as soon as i heard the re-recording of Dante's Inferno all my doubts were gone instantly!

Dystopia
Burning Times
Angels Holocaust
Slave to the Dark

My Own Savior
that's not my favorite IE song (and imo it's one of their most overplayed songs) it's nice that they did something special in concert
I learned how to play "Dystopia" on guitar (rhythm and a bit of the intro solo's) all by ear (knowing what Schaffer usually does on guitar helped a lot as it's a very "typical" Iced Earth song)... it's really easy and fun to play, though a bit too fast for me (I was also a bit stoned at the time haha)
