Well Im building up my Techinical Death Metal collection and im wondering what bands and albums should be needed in this collection, and thought that a thread needs to be made for recommendations on this. Im a fan of Psycroptic, Suffocation, and Cryptopsy.

Any list albums that should be inclued in the collection, bands and/or albums.

EDIT: Now we've got a lot of Tech DM bands added, make sure you go through and check if the band has been added or not, saves a bunch of repeats. Also lets get a little discussion about some of the bands.

Ulcerate and Mitochondrian are supposed to be very good.
Idk I've been having trouble getting into a lot of modern technical death metal. A lot of the bands seem to just blast through their songs without trying to distinguish themselves in anyway. Idk Necrophagist, Decapitated, and Nile haven't really sparked my interest, so that just goes to show how much I know about tech death.

Ulcerate and Mitochondrian are supposed to be very good.

Ulcerate are REALLY good. Of Fracture & Failure is a fantastic album and Everything Is Fire, though not as consistent as its predecessor was a good release too. Can't wait for their '11 release - The Destroyers Of All.

I really liked Mitochondrian's Archaeaeon and I've heard some reallllly good things about Parasignosis.

I just have to mention Origin and their 2008 album Antithesis. Don't really know if they are considered technical death but they are both technical and a little brutal.. and awesome in my opinion ^^

Eh I've never cared for Origin personally. There just seems to be something missing in their sound, could never quite put my finger on it though.

Thats all i can really think of on the "Technical" Side of Death Metal.

Beneath The Massacre - death metal kirby music Seriously though, this is horrendous. It's like the Dragonforce of tech death.
Brain Drill - If BTM is Dragonforce, then this is beyond that level of wankery. One of the wankiest bands of the genre.
Decrepit Birth - Incrediby generic and dull, but technical death.
Deeds Of Flesh - Mostly straight up brutal death.
Defeated Sanity - Same as above.
Disgorge - If you mean the good (true) Disgorge (Mexican one), nothing technical about it. Just very abrasive, brutal and fucked up deathgrind.
Dying Fetus - Widely regarded as slam and not TDM.
The Faceless - This is deathcore.
Guttural Secrete - Slammy brutal death, but not TDM.
Hate Eternal - Not really TDM
Hour Of Penance - Mostly straight up brutal death.
Necrophagist - Bland as hell, but still TDM.
Prostitute Disfigurment - Not TDM. Slammy brutal death.

And then a bunch of stuff I haven't heard, don't really recall what it sounds like, or got no real complaints about.

Whatever, your list needs:
Atheist
Demilich
!T.O.O.H.!
Pestilence

I agree with you
Atheist and Pestilence are great tech death bands that i forgot to mention havnt heard any
of the other bands on your list,

But seriously telling me that most of my list isn't technical death metal ??
I don't bout you but i dont really hear people labelling technical shit, "Technical"
But those bands are technical they have technical riffs, there are a number of different forms of TDM
Oh and btw some bands on my list i think you have to listen to the newer/older records that they have
released.
A lot of the bands are pretty much just "Brutal" bands... but they are Technical they have technicals riffs drums n shit.
If you listen to The Faceless' new album Planetary Duality... Deathcore ??.....
No.

And if you call pestilence TDM then what are bands like Hour of penance, Disgorge (im talking bout the disgorge from USA), Defeated Sanity
and the rest of the bands on my list, they all write technical songs, ther just not considered TDM

But if thats your exact opinion or whatever, i respect it stay metal \m/

Help me define the term 'Technical'.

MY .02 says: not as heavy...shreddier, more melodic, sweeping riffs, more solos (lots) and of course MORE TECHNICAL haha meaning more changes in notes at a faster pace, i guess

Well i have to recommend this russian band Monumental Torment, that just released their debut album "Elements of Chaos", it's a brutal technical death metal band, it's brutal yet technical and viceversa, but just in the right mix, not as brutal as losing their technical aspects and using the brutality in a right direction, not just senseless, quite in the vein of Necrophagist, i quite like this album pretty much, though i think the vocals could be handle better, a bit more precise and elaborted for a technical death metal.

Just listening to them now. They're pretty sweet I have to say. Interesting mix of death, grind and maybe even some black metal.

Actually I'll take back that "pretty sweet" and replace it with a "fucking awesome"

I'm glad, they're Lebanese, they also had the album reviewed here and a bunch of other places, My favorite track is Funeral in F sharp, it's a level above the other songs for me, the others are awesome as well though. You should also check the split they did last year with Terrordom or whatever their name is I forget.

I agree with you two, Funeral in F sharp is probably the best song but the first 5 songs all stand out. I listened to the split and wasn't nearly as impressed with the slight sound change. Just seemed less dynamic and interesting.
