The Worst "Popular" Metal Albums

I realize the importance of these albums to the genres, and the influence they have had. however I do not find these albums really that great and pleasurable due to the competition and elimination through these decades of musical evolution. I respect these bands for releasing something so creative, conceptual and also brought us to the new dimension in the past.
My opinions are solely personal which are based on its musical value in modern era, not for its historical significance. I received complaints from some members about rating their favorite albums at low scores. Unfortunately I am not able to do anything which is against my own will in order to please some of you. I apologize in advance for my poor english which restricted me for answering some of your questions and requests. On the other hand I was not able to convey my message efficiently due to the reason above mentioned that had caused a lot of misunderstandings. Definition : Overrated : A term used to describe something that gets more hype and credit than it's actually worth. Classic : (adjective) of the first or highest quality, class, or rank. (noun) Something noteworthy of its kind and worth "remembering". **************************************************************************************************** 1) All albums listed are considered OVERRATED in my personal point of view. 2) Opinions are solely personally, I hope interference from the website owners could be reduced to minimum.

I'm not offended by this list or by you by any means but what is "OVERRATED in my personal point of view"? -you hate all these albums for one or another very strange reason? -you love these albums but you hate the fact that more people on this planet like them? -you are laughing your butt of 'cause we are responding to this? Edit: now I see the ratings! You can't discuss someone's opinion but this list seems to me so over the top that I can't believe you're serious.

I'm pretty sure it's just a list of albums he doesn't like as much as the rest of the people on MS according to the ratings. Isn't that what everyone's view of "overrated" is? When you don't like something as much as the majority?

I'm sorry, but I agree with the guy, there are many "classic" albums that are overrated. The problem is, as mz pointed out, if you choose more than three from the same band, you just look like you're in a crusade against said bands, and against all "classic" albums in general. Starting from that point, if you think like that, as I said in the first comment, you can just put them all in there, since they'll all be overrated for x or y reason.

Especially since we don't have that much perspective on certain albums, and some people call them "classics" just because they're old or they had commercial success. Which doesn't exactly convince me.

Written by Koen Smits on 24.08.2014 at 20:25 Please don't make things complicated, It's more easier to explain it in this way : I bought Iron Maiden's The Number of The Beast because Iron Maiden always appeared on Metal Hammer Magazine (the value-enhanchment experts), probably 3-4 times per year ! My friends told me Iron Maiden is the best band in the world and I saw a lot of punks wearing Iron Maiden T shirt on the street....furthermore the album cover looked cool to me, so I was hypnotised by those influences. I bought it (sheep effect), listened to it, many times in the past, even in recent years. Finally brought into (my own) conclusion. It was just a commercial shit, the true value is not about the music (in the point of view of listeners) but how should they (music label) "make you believe" this is a good album so that you would buy this, and keep on believing the "myth" created by them in the next 100 years. I have to seriously label these albums overrated due to their commercial values are greater than their actual value musically. All based on my own opinions. Any disagreements would not cause any detriments to listeners, there is no hatred here, I don't hate any albums, all musical works should be gaining certain degree of respect.

I just shocked and disappointed with what actually made so many people believed that most of the albums released by those big name tag have been considered good so that they didn't even bother (or have time) for new musicians. Try to remember if any new metal bands' albums "appeared" twice in a year at record shops near you ?

It reflects the current condition as they might sound good and innovative in the past but really sound cheesy now. For example, which Death band can't play like Deicide - Deicide ? Those skills are old and being improved by other musicians...but for people who appreciate things with historical value will still buy this album. I called it Vintage Albums not a masterpiece anymore.
