well the day is approaching, and i must say, i really hate it when people say to me(because of my name) "hey dude, happy valentine's day!". i don't like this "holiday"(it's not even a holiday) it's just some greedy foreign investor's idea to get some more profit around mid-february.
Here, 14th february is all about stores with "get ready for valentine's day" written in pink, with an occasional bunny(pink of course) or something to decorate it(you guessed it, something pink). it's nothing about love, it's about "buy, buy, buy".
the basic concept of having a love celebration definetely appeals to me, but not some businessman's whim.

The question is for countries that simply got this celebration like we did, some rich asshole patented it, and started to brainwash every kid in the country just to have the first cash-in. in the u.s. or britain people are obviously with it, since it's part of their culture and stuff.

i vote "against".

valentine's day here is probably just like it is over there or any other western-cultured country. it is just an opportunity for shops to exploit and make more money - just like they do for christmas and easter and halloween and bonfire night and any others I have forgotten about..
the meanings behind these and the ways they came about are irrelevant nowadays - its all a commercial event. theres no need moaning about it, thats just how the world works now..

I believe we all agree that valentine's day is a sick way to make money.........so all I have to add is that in my country we have two opinions some who actually think that valentines day is actually a day for love, and others ban the celebration of it..............me, I'm not of any of these, but I think that valentines day should be to celebrate love and it doesn't require that u buy ur loved one a gift or anything,
I believe the words I love u should be more than enough.....(yeah right)

I'm working on valentines day.

I'm not really with or against. It's always good to remember your loved ones. I, however, think there should not be only one day like that in a year. A day like that should be every day.

I think Valentine's day is a nice day when you understand the meaning behind all the commercial shit. I've never liked using much money for gifts or anything, but the idea of showing your closest ones that you care is good. Of course one should remember to tell them it every day... I usually just make some cards myself and give them to my friends or maybe bake something good-tasting. At my school Valentine's day is celebrated by giving every girl a pink paperheart. The idea is that if a girl speaks with a guy, she loses her heart to that guy. I think it's sweet, although some girls take it a bit too seriously and avoid talking to any guy the whole day.

I voted for with, it is nice tradition and I don't see why would it effect me, I never bought anything to any girl on Valentine day but I always had apropriate gift, you don't have to buy something, there is so many ways to find a gift, so I am not fan of this holiday but if someone wants to celebrate it, let be so.

Hmmm, im kinda against, first, because it is another opportunity for me to feel "different" from the others. Let me explain :

__ I am always single, as a consequence, i hate when people ask me during the whole day who my valentine is . Makes me feel all the more lonely.
__Im sure i wouldnt even be able to offer a gift to my boyfriend, if i had one, cause im always broke XD.
__I dont see why i should offer a gift to my boyfriend (if i had one, and if i had money for that ) that special day, EXACTLY like thousands and thousands people all over the world, its not original and there could be other days for that.
__I hate the way this celebration is used to only MAKE MONEY.
__I hate those English and Spanish teachers asking us to write love poems on that day.
__I hate pink.
__I hate those stupid programs on tv on that special day.
__Love sucks anyways.

But i have to say, with or without a boyfriend, id think the same, as last year, i had one ( wow...), and we didnt do anything particular on that day.

Guess what ive voted XD.

But if you did have a boyfriend and he didn't get you a present because he "doesn't believe in valentines day", you'd hate him.

Yea, I know some girls who don't care for this day but when they realise the didn't get a present they pissed off, but in HumanError case I am not sure that she would be touch by that, because all hates she presented

I voted against actually. Many people say they dislike Valentines day but most girls would be disappointed if they dont get a present regardless of what their views are on this day (I know from experience lol). Also many peoples decisions will be swayed by the relationships they are in(or have been in). Also if you're single then you would probably dislike this day, more because you feel left out..

Anyway personally all I do is spend money on this day to buy some gift on someday that everyone else is giving their girls gifts too. Its just very meaningless and fruitless in my openion..

Why wait for this day to share gifts with your girlfriend/boyfriend?
This is not a part of our culture, and also, I find waiting for this day to 'share your feelings/gifts' quite ridiculous. This day is only for those whose job is just to turn the calender, discover which 'day' is coming and celebrate it.
People ask, 'do you have a valentine? ' This is the most stupid thing I've heard, why make this 'day' so special, when this is shit?
Also, the saying only those who have no girl/boy friends are against this 'day' is nonsense, because for 'true' lovers, everyday is the day to share their love.
And anyway, I really don't care who this asshole named 'st. valentine' is.

I don't see such a day doing any harm, and it does make people feel good about themselves, so I'm 'with' the idea. It's not like I don't show my girlfriend any less love on other days, but this day is a nice reason to dote on her a bit more than usual, and to put a big smile on her face. I've mailed her my gifts, she's mailed me hers, but we give each other stuff all the time anyway. Anyway, this is the first year that I've done something for the day, and it did make me feel good!

IMO gigts are moust ugliest thinks wating days like B-Day and Cristmass same about Valentibe day, but its nice if ppl give some gift to you, but gift isnt moust important think

I don't see any wrong with it, it's good to have a day to celebrate your love. And if you wanna buy something or not, that's up to you isn't it? I just wish I had a girlfriend right now to buy something nice to at Valentines. And aren't most holidays in many countries today just as commercial as Valentines day?

Well, if you like a girl at school but you don't have the guts to actually do something about it then Valentine's Day might give you a boost of confidence since lots of guys are trying thier luck!

By the way, guys, i heard on the radio that in Japan, girls give the guys gifts! I mean how cool is that, let's all move there! Mind you a month later you have to return the favor but at least you don't have to work up the courage to ask a girl out.

So i did a bit of snooping around in the Photo section of your profile, quite suprised you DON't have a boyfriend! Still, why are you so pissed of with life? It's only one day! Yeah the corporations use it as a means to make money but isn't that their primary objective?

Anyway, I know that I need to tell her... and valentine's day is fast approaching. I have decided against doing it on that day because, well, everyone else does... I also tend to joke around a bit too much, so on that particular day, she might not actually take me seriously. I like metal but that doesn't mean I'm brooding and dark...no, I'm cheerful and generally optimistic....love is great, but I don't like how capitalist this day is... I would rather make my actions special rather than just follow the trend on a particular day.

But then again, perhaps it might not be such a bad opportunitiy, since we'll both be lonely... which I'm rather used to, but hey, no point in passing on good opportunities should they arise. But I'm not planning on it.

Ultimately though, all this commercialism is fake, and I've seen too many "fake" relationships on the day...because of that, I vote against.

Haha, fist, id like to say something about my post . It sounded like the usual revolted pre-teen because i wanted to . Too bad the irony gets lost though the internet.

Well, i dont have anything particular against pink , its just that i dont wear that colour much, i think i have one or two pink panties , and a pink scarf. So, it was just humour, and no, i dont think that a guy with a pink t-shirt IS NECESSARY gay XD, dont worry .

About my pics, hmmm, first, im kind of a good photographer, so it looks better than i really am, and really, i dont think looks can ever help to get a boyfriend. Thats my point of view, cause im not really looking for those kind of meaningless relationships people have at my age. Im not a fucking trophee. And besides, i cant find anyone that suits me, metalheads are rare here.

About Valentine's day, well, i dont really care much, because when i had a boyfriend i had presents almost everyday , everyday was a Valentine's day, a real one, but once more, i wanted to make some humour but it didnt work again XD. Of course having a present is nice, but i dont think it would make me change my mind about the serious aspects of that special day : MONEY. It has been totally made up for that.

People that like cheesy days like this must be trully in love. Of course, I hate Valentines day. Why, you ask? I'm always alone... and I always have to be reminded.... It's just another day of the year to for greeding card companies to cash in....

....and besides, why should there be a day of the year to buy stupid flowers and chocolates???? That's only for couples that have are going to break up eventually because they have to BUY love.....it's the little things that count like saying "I love you" and meaning it...not just saying it becuse you feel obligated....

I'm not really gonna take a side on this. I don't mind the day, but I do get tired of people freaking out about it.

I don't know that owning pink shirts necessarily equates to being "in touch with one's feelings" .
