The potential return to death metal worries me as I ran out of love/appreciation for PL's first two albums.

Sacrifice the Flame is stunning! Easily their best album in 20 years.

Got this album yesterday .. easily one of the best albums I've heard yet in 2015.

Best thing the band has ever released. It's not often you get to say that about a big name band that's nearly thirty years into their career.

I wouldn't say it is their best. But it certainly is by far their best since Draconian Times.

Lost Paradise and Draconian Times called and disagree with those two,

Great album. Have to admit it's the first recent album by them I check out.

As a genre-tag I'd call this gothic doom metal. I think the song Beneath Broken Earth misled people because most songs on the album are less doom and more gothic than that song.

There is almost no gothic on it. There is just as much black metal there

Just started listening to this. Will report back with my opinion when it's finished.

Great song the bonus track "Never Look Away" big surprise. Gothic Metal!!!

I wouldn't say this album is their best, but it is great nonetheless. Nick Holmes growls sound different to how they did back in the band's prime, but he still sounds fantastic! I like that he's mixing the growling with the cleans, it's a great combination, and helps with the dynamic flavour. "Beneath Broken Earth" and "Flesh From Bone" are utterly sublime, and the rest of the album is not far behind! And I love that cover art too.

So much better than the lazy Tragic Idol, and of course one of the albums of the year. I love it.

I think the song " Never Look Away" should be entered between songs lp, is a great song. Gothic/atmosphere Icon(Joys of the Emptiness, Colossal Rains). Brutal song!!!!

Return to the Sun is such a killer track. Probably my favorite.

I've started to listening , at first glance cover art is absolutely a 10 ... i'm not sure about the music yet!

Great album, playing all day long
I hear elements from old PL every album and also from new each seperetly ... interesting. growls, heaviness ... promising album, might win MS awards

The biggest surprise for me were the vocals. much much improved. really enjoyed them. Lyrics remain Paradise Lost's weakest suite, though everything else is pretty good.

Punishment Through Time and Victim of the Past are the only two songs I don't really like, sounds like they've already been done in the past by Paradise Lost.

I don't know what to say about this album, for sure it's a suprise with the new/old vocals. My opinion is that the album is very good but i dont really like Nick on muscle. I'm still listening this album, for now songs No hope in sight, Cry Out, An Eternity Of Lies and Never Look Away are very good

Just great album !!! The sound is incredible. Nick is rough and strong. Many musical album and almost nothing commercial can not hear it.

Great album but not sooooo great either. Yes they're heavier, the harsh vocals are back, the pop stuff of previous albums is pretty much gone, but lets be fair: this is no "classic". Its a nice return to old school gothic/doom/death metal, with good moments throughout the album, but i doubt i'll be listening to this thing 6 months from now.

Good moments: Terminal, An Eternity Of Lies: nice catchy tunes with great melodic "old sounding" guitars.

Meh moments: Punishment Through Time (the shredding here is cool), Sacrifice the Flame (nice mood) and Victim Of The Past (PL typical Type 0 Negative song in the beggining, gets dull after): forgettable but enjoyable songs.

Songs i would glady leave out: Flesh From Bone (the fast death metal part sounds roughed in) and Cry Out (solos are nice but this sounds off from the rest of the album): boring almost filler tunes.

Brilliant stuff: No Hope In Sight (this one should open their live shows), heavy guitars meet stunning Nick's performance,with catchy melancholic atmosphere (Return to the Sun) and the doom apocalyptic rendez-vous (Beneath Broken Earth).

7/10 for me. (yes i'm pretty miser about grades)
