Leprous - Announce New Album Title And European Tour

After confirming that they were in the studio, today proggers Leprous have announced big news! They just revealed that their new album title will be The Congregation. It will be released on May 25th in Europe and June 2nd in United States via InsideOutMusic. You can mark your calendars and start hyping about it! But the exciting news also involves a new European tour. Check out all the dates below for live action from the band. The European headlining tour in support of The Congregation happens in September/October, alongside Rendezvous Point and another yet to be announced main support act.

Vocalist and keyboard player Einar Solberg has checked in as follows: "This has without doubt been the most challenging album to write so far, if you count the amount of hours, blood, sweat and tears behind it. Which makes me extra proud to just have delivered the master of what I consider to be the most daring, technical, fresh and mature album we've ever done. The music of The Congregation is mostly written by me on my computer, so that I this time around could use my ears instead of my knowledge as the main writing tool. If you use your knowledge and your usual methods to write every album, you will eventually find yourself stuck in a quagmire of old habits. Lyrically The Congregation covers the dangers and consequences of blindly following the flow, thus the album title will speak for itself."

Leprous have recorded the drums, guitars and bass for their new album in Sweden's Fascination Street / Ghostward Studios with David Castillo (Katatonia, Opeth) and the vocals together with Heidi Solberg Tveitan and Vegard Tveitan at Mnemosyne Studios in Norway. Just like the preceding albums Bilateral and Coal, The Congregation was mixed by Jens Bogren at Fascination Street Studios (Opeth, Symphony X, Kreator).

Wasn't terribly partial toward 'Coal', but I still have high hopes this will be great.

Have you seen Leprous live before? I'd probably place them among my top 10 favourite artists, but that doesn't stop me from saying that they're a terrible live band

I don't really like the album concept - it's far too popular these days it seems. Not that I honestly care about lyrics at all...still psyched as hell for the new album, as always

No, never saw them live. They are one of the few of my fav bands that I haven't seen live. They came here recently but I couldn't make it, so this is pretty exciting. I've heard it all about them, some people liked them, others hated the vocals live. Hopefully, they are getting better though?

I'm just glad I get to see them

I'm afraid I must agree on this one. I saw them during summer 2013 and they were terrible I am not sure I will ever dare to see them live again.

Saw them twice (once opening for Amorphis, once headlining with Blindead as support), and both times they were awesome.
So maybe they're hit or miss... But they never disappointed me

Let's hope a Toulouse date (halfways between both) will be added.

The singer was having one of his off days I guess, most of the time off-key or out of breath. However I checked a few live videos and it seems it is not always the case I might give them a second chance live.

Off-key? Thankfully I never experienced that! Let's hope for you then you won't endure that again

Yeah, I also saw Leprous live and was severely disappointed by the performance. It felt like a cheap version of the album recordings... Especially the vocals, he was trying to produce the same feeling, but falling flat. I guess it was one of his off-days.

Really? I saw them in the UK and was absolutely blown away by how good they were. The venue was hardly full, but the energy was incredible and they just seemed to nail song after song.

I'm with everyone who commented on the lackluster vocal performance live. Einar is honestly one of the best vocalists in metal. Period. That is...in the studio. Live, he couldn't hit those high notes or screams. He sounded as if he had a cold the entire set. To be honest, I'm sure there's a plausible reason for it, not to mention the fact that touring isn't particularly conducive to a consistent vocal performance. That said, most of the live videos I've watched on YouTube didn't portray him in a better light

...and that's just the vocal aspect. The instrumentation lacked substance - I felt as if they failed to create the fullness or atmosphere found on their albums. It sounded as if they just played their parts as heard on the album and forgot about all the numerous additional effects and instruments (programmed or otherwise) found on their albums. I think the only reason I'd ever see Leprous again would be to see if they finally fixed their live sound while simultaneously contributing to the band
