Don't pay attention too much to musicians, so I'll focus on bands/albums. Listen to me try to pick out which ones I wanna add when a year or more ago I despised this genre.

Deathspell Omega = Love at least 75% of their discog.

Watain = Even if the last one wasn't particularly impressive, they have a real good catalog of high quality generic black metal.

Cobalt = Two really fantastic works of black metal.

2. Top three Black Metal albums
Immortal - "At The Heart Of Winter"
My favorite black metal album, without doubt. Riffs, galore!

Lurker Of Chalice - "Lurker Of Chalice"
An absolutely stunning ambient black metal album. I love the feeling to total emptiness it leaves you after you finish listening to it. Love it enough to shell out $40 for the reissue.

Oranssi Pazuzu - "Muukalainen Puhuu"
I love the spaced-out atmosphere of this album, and the cover art as well.

3. Top three Black Metal songs
Satyricon - "Nemesis Divina"
The title track of the just as great album. Holy crap, that twin guitar ending is amazing. After a blistering black metal song that fades to darkness, the ending riff starts and I imagine the sun rising from over a foggy green hill, bringing light after having spent a whole album in a moonlit darkness.

Lurker Of Chalice - "Spectre As Valkyrie Is"
Everything about that song just flows beautifully. It's the example I would use to find beauty in odd music. I also love it when the droning riff kicks in... and the samples.

Darkthrone - "Transylvanian Hunger"
I really love Zephyrous' guitar line. It's so sorrowful and is completely hummable. Good song which that riff catapults into "pantheon of all time favorites" status.
