It was a long, dark, and stormy night of the soul for Children Of Bodom as they wandered, fazed and abused, through the creative wasteland for 40 years. Pardon my mixed metaphors. 2013's Halo Of Blood came as a shock, being not only a much better album than anything from the previous decade, but also quite a good album on its own merits. I Worship Chaos does nothing of the sort.

I like the artwork. Bodom's song titles don't usually say anything about the music but I hope it's at least as good as Halo of Blood.

Typically I don't care about song titles, but fuck, those are some awful song titles.

You would indeed be accurate in that assumption.

Danger Zone?!

No, seriously, what the hell? I need to hear that. (since it's going to be ridiculously bad)

Nothing special but not bad either. Their previous album set the bar high and I think I expected too much out of this. A few good riffs can't really save the average songwriting.

First listen through, tracks 1, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 all seem good to varying degrees. The others (track 2-5) are very forgetful. I'll have to see how those 6 "good" tracks grow on me to come to an overall conclusion on the album.

I think my biggest problem with the whole thing is that it just feels like a lazy emulation of what this band used to be capable of. There's a scattered moment of quality here and there (The chorus of "Morrigan" is nice, Horns has some decent riffage going on, etc.), but nothing as a whole is sticking for me. Also, the closing track ending on one of the lamest downtuned metalcore breakdowns I have ever heard has to be one of the crappiest final moments of an album I've yet to hear.

I'll give it another listen or two, but I have this feeling subsequent listens are going to make me grow even more contempt for it.

Well one thing I'll say is that this is by far the least Bodom sounding record that CoB has ever released. Usually CoB has that defining sound, but this album could easily pass as virtually any other melodic death metal band. Even on their newer albums, Bodom still had those signature guitar and keyboard melodies... but on this album, they seem to have traded those out completely in favor of riffs.

I'm finding it hard to like this album, it's a huge step down from Halo of Blood.

Morrigan is an awesome song and I liked All For Nothing but the rest of the album is full of weak songs with a few great moments thrown in on occasion.

I love Amorphis so I was surprised to see Children of Bodom cover Black Winter Day and I have to say I'm disappointed.
Then I heard Amorphis's cover of Everytime I Die...

Just did a few more spins. The covers are all great.
Totally the album is quite average. I can clearly hear CoB in some tracks and some tracks sound like Nother.

I bought this album almost solely for the Amorphis cover... eight hours of airplane travel and a week on a nearly deserted island later and I absolutely love it. Some are saying Halo was better, I actually like this more.

Is it me, or Prayer For The Afflicted sounds like a Hypocrisy song?

Just listened to it and yes, the song structure and some melodies remind me of Elastic Inverted Visions

You know, the more I listen to this album, the more it grows on me... which is the exact opposite of RRF (which I initially liked, but found the songs didn't "age" very well with time).

I honestly think if they had just replaced a few of the weaker tracks with some more solid ones, this album could have been on par with Halo of Blood, or even better.

After Halo of blood I was specting something better. It was definitely a step forward for them, but this... It's the worst album they've ever released.

It's not so hard if you compare Follow The Reaper, Something Wild or Hatebreeder to anything they have put out over the last decade (perhaps with the exception of Halo of Blood).

Well, I don't know. I compare and I don't found something to complain about. I like every album from them without exception (even Bloodrunk).
