I was lucky to be 14 years old when Rust In Peace came out, the album that many consider to be the best thrash release that has ever seen the light of day. Followed by a couple of very good records, Dave Mustaine and co. spent the next 20 years or so giving us music that ranged from not so impressive to very disappointing (with the exception of Endgame's pleasant surprise). So, what do Megadeth have in store for us in 2016?

"Fatal Illusion" indicates the material of the album might be more thrash metal oriented than the two previous albums. Maybe not as thrash as "Endgame", but who knows?

Why is Sydney getting overrun by futuristic ninja terminators?

Clearly it's the best way to deal with all those spiders you Aussies live with.

Judgeing by this amazing cover art it seems that we are expecting a very good album. After The system has failed, Vic Rattlehead is here in his full image. Vic I don't want to look your back again

What makes yo think this is Sydney? Could could be any big city with water and a bridge in the world.

I'm sure there are other suspension bridges similar to the Sydney Harbour Bridge but certainly it is the most well-known and so this is what first comes to mind with that album cover. I'm not convinced it is supposed to be Sydney either - it may be, or it may not. The skyline looks different, but it may represent a future time when different buildings have been constructed.

From what I heard I enjoyed it very much.

It's more or less the same music that Megadeth has been serving us for the last 15 years. Similar, slick production only adds to this impression. But this time the songs are much better than they were on the last several albums. Last time I enjoyed a Megadeth album so much was either "The System Has Failed" or "Cryptic Writings".

Those who only value the 80's albums and perhaps "Rust in Peace" (which are, without a shadow of doubt, absolutely the best that the band has released) will find nothing interesting on "Dystopia". Those who liked how Megadeth turned more melodic and catchy (think "Countdown to Extinction"), will enjoy the new album immensely.

Old fans will find some traces of Megadeth's old glory here and there. The title song, especially its second part, "Fatal Illusion", "Conquer or Die" - these songs, and perhaps a few others, contain some elements of old thrashy Megadeth, but I'm sure these elements won't be enough to hold old fans' interest.

Haven't really got much out of the albums Megadeth have released since they came back from retirement. But I think I might check this one out as getting good vibes from reading about it.

They never retired.

Didn't they break up (for a few months only) after "The System Has Failed"?

The System Has Failed wasn't supposed to be the solo debut of Dave?

Yes, it was.

Quoting Mustaine (source):

Quote:

"The System Has Failed" was initially supposed to be a solo album. I had left MEGADETH behind in 2002 and was going forward with my solo career. While I was in the studio, I got a call from my publishing company, and they told me that I owed my label another MEGADETH record. Until I gave them that they would own me as a solo artist. I didn't like the idea of someone owning my rights forever, so my solo career had to wait.

Really good album. I'm not expecting any well known band to reinvent heavy metal, because that just won't happen too soon, so this album from Megadeth is more than good for me. It has some old-school vibe, while Mr. Mustaine's trying to keep a modern sound either. Definitely better than anything they've (oh, sorry. anything HE's) done lately for my ears. A solid nine, because let's be honest, it's far from being a masterpiece. It seems like HE collected some ideas of the RIP and Countdown/Youthanasia era and mixed them together.

I am just being real. Always thought they have better lyrics and song structure. Still like both of them. Just Megadeth more. Seen both of them live before as well.
