I only see two doom variants: The stoner and the funeral. After this the most you get is when they merge it with other genres.

progressive doom

drone doom
gothic doom

Doom more diverse than BM? Sorry man, but no. There are indeed some pretty out there doom bands in existence at the moment, such as P.H.O.B.O.S., Dark Buddha Rising, The Body, and others, but on the whole (at least to me) doom metal is still very much plagued by a large majority of Sabbath, Pentagram, and Electric Wizard imitators. Gonna be pretty hard to break that mold because that still seems to largely be Doom Mantra at the moment.

For sure the number of bands doing crazy experimentations is much more in BM, but here is the thing: take Black Sabbath, Candlemass, My Dying Bride, disembowelment, skepticism, sunn o))), acid bath and electric wizard as bands that are representatives of doom, and compare them to bathory, mayhem, ulver, darkthrone, deathspell omega and WitTR. I think that disprity is different sub-genres of doom metal is much more than BM. After all, doom can be extreme or non-exrtreme, while even bands like deafheaven are still extreme metal bands. All in all, different sub-genres of doom metal are more distinctive than sub-genres of BM.
This was a minor, non-important point tbh, though.

give Tort II a listen. there are some thrashy riffs within the miasma. not that i'd call the thrash doom...

...and in conclusion, yes, I think metal should be accepted.

Walking down town the other day past like 30 hipster cafes and pubs with shitty pop music being ironic by sounding 80s, it felt great to escape in to the one dark dingy pub with horrible looking cunts in patched vests and darkthrone hoodies listening to mayhem screaming on the stereo, this is why we need to stop the deafheaven movement, that pub would just be another hipster cafe if the deafheaven fans get their way

Just checked and they have been on here as just doom metal and with the heavy tag.

MC - there are 2 logs one is add, other years ... I think they were listed in some BNR page like that or doom-metal.com

Edit: just saw it already mentioned. They only have one album I'd consider power doom, and that would be Vast Oceans. Before that they were doom, and after that they were prog power.

Singing about Satan was enough to get Mercyful Fate, Bathory and Running Wild the black metal tag.

Don't know where you get the idea from that Running Wild were called called black metal. They were never called black metal at the time. Just heavy metal was the what they were called back in the day.

I guess he refers to the first 2 Running Wild albums, especially "Gates To Purgatory". However, I've never seen Running Wild labelled as Black Metal.
