I like how this band has a true-to-prog component while not at all skimping on the heaviness.

Hate to be that guy, but Fountainhead was the guitarist who played on the album. Trujillo joined after the studio sessions.

Rafael Trujillo hasn't played on the album; he joined after the album was finished and Fountainhead was fired. All the fretless guitar parts, some fretted guitar and much of the music written is done by Fountainhead. I expected better from MS.

That situation was addressed when they announced Trujillo. He joined and said he didn't record the album but technically it's their first album with those two new members now in the band, that is all Also, according to the band, Tom Geldschläger is credited for what he wrote on the album.

Right you are of course, but I still think the first "album" with those 2 new members is misleading.

I seriously doubt that "much of the music written" was written by Fountainhead. Steffen Kummerer has always been the driving force of Obscura, with Linus behind him. If you have somewhat of a trained ear, the sections that Fountainhead wrote practically jump out at you (if you've heard him play before)... I agree, shame on MS for not even mentioning it in the title, but to say that the guy wrote "much of the music" is a definite overstatement. Not to mention, Fountainhead is IMO the worst aspect of this album... I'm so glad fretless guitars never really caught on, they're annoying. Muenzner's playing would have put this album over the top... the new drummer actually impressed me though.
EDIT: I take back what I said... I listened to the album a few more times now. I decided to listen to a few of my favorite tracks off Omnivium and I honestly have to say I think this album would have been so much better with the previous album's lineup. But hey.. they're still enjoyable to some extent. I'd give this album a 7/10.

"Much of the music", not 'Most', but I agree that it might sound exaggerating. Perhaps I like Fountainhead too much... And I disagree that the previous line-up would be better, they're just different. Not better or worse... Still, I like Omnivium the better, too. Akroasis sounds too dark and cool, unlike the cover art.
And also, Linus has written "much music" for the album too
