Messe Des Morts VI - Draws Protests, Graveland Show Cancelled

According to TVA Nouvelles and other sources, the last day of the Messe Des Morts festival, which was scheduled to take place yesterday (November 26th) in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, has been canceled "for safety reasons" following a protest against one of the event's performers with alleged ties to white supremacist groups, Graveland. Ulcerate, Mgła, Cult Of Fire and more performed on this year's festival.

The Polish band Graveland was scheduled to appear at the Théâtre Plaza and has drawn criticism for the alleged National Socialist political views of singer Robert "Rob Darken" Fudali.

The festival's organizers have released the following statement regarding the decision to call off the event.

In 2008, Germany outlawed the sale of four Graveland's albums as "unsafe for youth."

Rob (Darken) Fudali, the founder and frontman of Graveland, in an email to the Montreal Gazette said "It is not easy to clean (the) past." But he insisted that neither he nor the band is political. Critics are always "trying to put an NSBM mark on the band." Fudali called the band's music pagan black metal.

I thought we were kind of safe from these protests in Montreal.

From the article: "[Anti-fascist protester] said while the concert would certainly attract people wanting just to hear the music, it would certainly also attract extreme right militants who want to encourage a white supremacist band." I don't think they understand the metal scene. And what are they afraid of? Hitler coming back to power in Canada?

Really hope this doesn't start a trend. They won, and it empowers them.

It's already a trend. Blastfest was forced to drop K.P.N. from the lineup due to antifa protests and sponsors threatening to stop supporting the festival. There was a german festival too (forgot the name) that had to be cancelled due to the fact that the venue chickened out when antifa started to attack them for hosting a supposedly nazi event.

I hate politics! But I'm starting to get sick of left wing extremists. They are more fascists than Hitler and Mussolini together...

Well, I am following Fudali on his personal facebook account and he's not connected with nazi or something. He consider himself as pagan. He's not familiar with all this neonazists. So...'I am confusion!'.

Gets tiring to see all these intolerant uninformed groups acting with impunity at private events that don't even concern them.

I bet Graveland will have no problem playing in Latin America next year. Wrongly called "white-supremacists" are only welcomed at "non-white" countries haha... Sad.

Well, this is confusing.
How do they know that Graveland has something to do with white supremacist groups? I don't know anything about the band or members, just want to understand the mindset.
Is it just about past/history or did they check the lyrics/imagery/background and we have some scholars/priests on this subject? (And on a side note, do they molest children too?)

But it's really interesting, in Canada it's "white supremacist groups", somewhere else is "unholy music", in short, whatever you desire my beloved offended people. Oh, the irony.

From what I read, it stems from some photos when Graveland started playing live of Fudali and Honor members, a Polish skinhead band widely associated with the neo-Nazi movement.

Also from an interview done in 2003 where they clearly say they are anti-jew: http://www.graveland.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=89%3Agraveland-interview-for-ablaze-mag-december-2003&catid=4%3Ainterviews&Itemid=6

They have since retracted these statements. None of their lyrics attacks jews. Kinda funny how wanting to kill all Christians is more politically correct than hating jews...

*facepalm* and *laugh* at the same time. "Funny" world.
Anyway, thanks for the links and info.
