Already found a would-be gem for 2017. Chilled out math/progressive rock from UK. You Break, You Buy - Don't Join The Circus

Richly textured dark ambient and drone. Nice crackly analogue feel to it. And eerie jazz influenced ambient, much more experimental sounding but also very nice.

Fantastically peculiar psychedelia from Russia. It's kind of cosmic but to be honest describing it is fairly difficult. It's really great though.

Nice. *furtively adds to the list*

New project with Aidan Baker (of Nadja) on guitars. Very cool and relaxing ambient post-rock. Particularly like the bass on this.

Fantastic female-led noise outfit Pharmakon has a new record coming out. Power electronics feedback and abrasive textures abound no doubt. Industrial techno. Pretty cool apocalypse evoking atmosphere, but an apocalypse you can boogie to. Moody dungeon synth / dark ambient. Cool tape music. Abstract crackly ambient with looped melodies and sounds played in the background. Quite relaxing.

I clearly haven't been keeping up with Skullflower in recent years. Seems like he's had dozens of non-album / EP releases. This is the one from this year. Mind twisting psychedelic, non-abrasive noise texturing. Really quite good actually.

And this time an upcoming full length from Skullflower. More psychedelic noise going by the two tracks.

New Slowdive single. I can't say I'm overly familiar with them but considering this is their first piece of music in 22 years I'm guessing this is significant news for many. And new ambient drone album from avant-garde master William Basinski. Sounds quite fantastic to me. Exceptional sounding instrumental, experimental hip-hop. Just an incredible gamut of sound collage variety. Fun psychedelic rock coming out next month.

25.01.2017 - 20:20 Written by Guest on 25.01.2017 at 12:42 Yeah. This is a throwback to their first and second albums (i.e. bogstandard dream pop/light shoegaze), but their third and latest album Pygmalion had already moved past that into this unique ambient pop/postrock territory that had more to do with Bark Psychosis and Talk Talk than with My Bloody Valentine. I genuinely think Pygmalion is one of the best albums of the 90s, whereas the first two are just good, occasionally great (their best singles are really catchy) but hardly singular.

Wicked power noise / rhythmic noise. Haven't listened to something of this genre for years, and this is a damn fine addition to it.

Two new Diamanda Galas tracks coming up. Not her darkest stuff by any means by vocally it's off the scale as one would expect. New Moon Duo album coming out (2 it seems in fact). Was a huge fan of their 2015 release so I suspect this will be a highlight of psychedelic rock this year.
