Wintersun - Reveal New Guitarist
After Wintersun frontman Jari Mäenpää stepped down as guitarist to concentrate fully on singing when it comes to live performances, the search for a second guitarist started. Preferably, the band was looking out for a guitarist that lived in Finland and spoke the language as well. The choice has been made and it's 27 year old guitarist Asim Searah, originally from Pakistan but who moved to Finland at the age of 18. Asim Searah has been active as a guitarist as well as a singer in bands like Cantilena, Damnation Plan, Selfblind and Kiuas, and now joins Wintersun's roster.
The band added: "We've known him for a long time and we knew he is a great singer, but we didn't realise how talented and skillful guitar player he is. Asim was actually the first who sent us an audition video, which surprised us very positively. After the video auditions and two rounds of live auditions we realised he was exactly what we were looking for. He is very motivated and passionate with a good heavy metal attitude - a great guitar player and vocalist to improve the live sound of Wintersun even further!"
Asim comments: "It's an honour to be a part of a band that I have looked up to for many years. It's definitely a dream come true and I'm super excited to share the stage with Wintersun!"

What surprised me more is that Jari chose to sing in stead of playing guitar. He had a quarter of his lung removed due to tuberculosis and he is a beast on guitar... But then again it might be easier finding someone to play the guitar parts than someone with a similar voice.
