The titles says it all. This topic is for progressive doom metal appreciation, and for recommending new bands. It doesn't matter if it's ambiental, psychedelic, sludge, dark, melo, extreme, female fronted, or whatever.

I've been looking for some recommendations and I've discovered some really great bands, for example this Brazilian prog/doom band with Egyptian folk influences named Amarna Sky:

This other band with a great dark atmosphere, Aetas, I would say it's prog death/doom, you can download the whole demo here:

So, if you're into the genre or like both progressive metal and doom metal, you can give more recommendations and get into new bands.

But I would never classify most bands that were mentioned as "progressive doom".

I don't know if they were mentioned but listenign to Vast Oceans Lachrymose by While Heaven Wept and that is quite progressive. At times they remind me of a doom version of old Fates Warning

listened to it once through and that was the first thought to cross my mind. was actually going to pm you on it...

Just thought of another [ul]possible[/ul] example:

Umbra Nihil from Sweden is also kind of spacey. I suppose it depends on what type of "Progressive" you are looking for. If you mean instrumental wankery, then it will probably be difficult to identify a Doom band that fits the bill. If you mean the complexity of sounds and concepts, then Umbra Nihil may meet the description.

Yes they are sort of progressive as well. I even have Gnoia in my top 100 albums of this decade But like you said in that spacy sort of way, sort of like Hawkwing and old Pink Floyd

Thanks,

Those who are a bit more literary might be interested to know that their latest album, "The Borderland Rituals," took its initial concept from William Hope Hodgson's brooding horror novel "The House on the Borderland. "

This was going to be my suggestion. Glad I read everything first, almost forgot to lol. This definitly has some progressive elements too it, which might be why I love this album so much. This is one of my favorite doom albums, I don't have a ton, so it's not that hard to be on my favorites list lol. But it's definitely worth checking out for anyone intrested in prog/doom metal.
