I came here to post. Then I saw your comment. Then i just quoted you. :> I think the highest point of the album are Alyssa's clean vocals on one track. I think it's the first different thing from Arch Enemy since maybe the keyboard in Enemy Within loool

It's so painfully generic and we've heard it a thousand times. The last album was quite a good recovery from Khaos Legions but this is right back down there. Weak 3

It's not spectacular by any means, but it's definitely not as bad as people are making it out to be. I must be missing something.

Good? bad? enjoyable? boring? I don't really know, but if they continue to flood the fans with songs like this, soon they wont be able to tell one from the other

If you've heard a decent amount of thrash or melodeath albums you've heard pretty much everything on this album before. That's the main reason why it sucks.

I don't care what people say. This album is a kick-ass!! Love the new approach (Clean vocals, longer songs, etc..). Still a solid album

Totally agree!! Love the experimenting with long tracks. My favorites are (Dreams Of Retribution, Reason to Believe, A Fight I Must Win, The Race and Murder Scene).

At first listen, I was like "Weird AE album". But after few spins it grew on me. Can't say that it is better than WE, but sill a good album! 8/10

I wouldn't call it "experimenting" with long tracks... See "Bridge Of Destiny", "Dark Of The Sun", "Mechanic God Creation"...

I like a couple of the tracks here, but generally am rather disappointed.

MS hates the album because it's melodic and it's by a more popular and well-known band.
Anyway, good album. Needs more spins on my end, but I'm feeling around an 8 right now.

MS is well known for having in high regard popular melodeath/gothenburg/prog/etc. Source: ratings for Insomnium, Be'lakor, Omnium, etc... So your analysis might be a bit off.

Decent album. I've listened to it 3 times now. Nothing really sticks out except Reason due to the clean vocals. Some songs sound like Arch Enemy and others sound like a completely different band. A couple of times I had to make sure I was still listening to Arch Enemy. Eagle Flies gave me a distinct Amon Amarth vibe. First day in Hell sounds very familiar but I cant quite place it. My biggest problem with Arch Enemy currently is they cant use Alissa to her full potential. I like her growls but absolutely love her clean voice. However Arch Enemy is all about the growl so I dont think clean would work., not like Alissa with The Agonist at least.

^ Arch Enemy is not "all about the growl" anymore since there is one song with clean vocals in this new album, as you state it. I know, it is only one song, but maybe more in the future?
It's good and add some variety in this record, that I find much more diverse than the previous ones, and that's for sure a good thing.
I don't really understand why a majority of the comments here are negative, as the album sounds quite different from the other last ones, and is fairly enjoyable.
Sure it is not a masterpiece, but nor is it a disappointment, I think.

Ugh, this is a mediocre effort after War Eternal, which I thought was quite good. What is Jeff Loomis doing in this band? So much talent gone to waste

War eternal was average, this is just sad to listen to. Only songs worth a damn were the two singles. Even when they try something new and actually put Alissa's clean vocals to use, it's still a bore.

After the ballad (Reason To Believe) everything goes downhill. The first single was very promising, the second made me think they're on the right track, but when I got the album I could enjoy only the first part of it. The rest seem to be filler after filler. I understand Michael wants to keep the AE sound, but they really should consider letting Jeff step in on some songs with riffs. I'm sure Michael can select or at least inspire himself by some of them. I don't think Jeff is not capable to understand as an artist what the AE sound means or should sound like. When you have such a giant in your band it wouldn't hurt to ask for help if you're out of ideas after 5 - 6 songs.
