Anathema - Launch New Promo Video

British group Anathema have revealed their new video for the single "Can't Let Go" from their latest album, The Optimist, released this year. The song, written by drummer John Douglas further explores the journey of the character of The Optimist in "Can't Let Go" first introduced through their album A Fine Day To Exit. The video for "Can't let Go" is also available to view in an alternative flat 360° format.

Daniel Cavanagh explains: "The optimist is always held back from reaching a full potential by the weight of the past, a weight that lies heavy on the heart and upon the mind. Unable to cut the strings, the optimist flounders unless the past can be released and a new person is born. This is not an easy thing to do, even for the optimist inside all of us. Not an easy thing to do at all."

Anathema's eleventh full-length, The Optimist, was recently recognised at the Progressive Music Awards, where it received the prestigious Best Album Award. On winning this coveted accolade, Daniel Cavanagh states: "This was the one we wanted. Voted by the readers. I can tell by the reaction of the rest of the band that this meant a lot. The album was difficult to make and we put everything into it. So, it feels so nice to be recognised in this way. Many thanks to all!"

Having started already taken their headline tour, in support of the new album to Russia, Latin America and North America, the band begin their UK and European dates in Glasgow on Friday 22nd September and will be joined on these dates by French blackgaze pioneers Alcest.

Anathema will then head over to Australia in December and will be announcing further lives dates for 2018 shortly.

In related news, guitarist/keyboardist/vocalist Daniel Cavanagh also announced the release of his next solo album, Monochrome, on October 13th via Kscope.

Monochrome was written and performed by Daniel Cavanagh and features guest performers Anneke Van Giersbergen - ex-vocalist for The Gathering, who has since sung with Devin Townsend, Árstíðir, Anathema and Arjen Lucassen appears on 3 songs - "This Music", "Soho" and "Oceans Of Time". The album also sees the talented Anna Phoebe providing violin on "Soho", the Poe inspired "The Silent Flight Of The Raven Winged Hours" and "Dawn". It was recorded at Grammy Award-winning Parr Street Studios, engineered by Andrea Wright, mastered by Anathema's Daniel Cardoso, and with artwork by illustrator Danny Branscombe.
