Greetings, I was wondering if MS could give me some doom metal album recommendations?

I love Candlemass and Dominion and was hoping to expand my fandom, I have no preference for vocal style but favour darker atmospheres to the more stoner side of the subgenre.

Beyond that, start here. Some time ago I made a list of 25 albums, some from big acts, some from smaller, some traditional, some more on the 'extreme' end of things. Kept it to 25 as easier to digest.

From that list...

A Six Pack of those more on the traditional side of Doom:

Warning - Watching From A Distance (the album that got me in to doom, the one that really clicked)
40 Watt Sun - Inside Room - different band, but Pat Walker from Warning. Fuzzier, less bleak than WFAD above.
Anathema - Silent Enigma - before they turned into some modern day Pink Floyd offspring
Cathedral - The Carnival Bizarre - Sabbath-like doom (Iommi guests on one track), vocals take getting used to.
Procession - Destroyers Of The Faith - great stuff, though I now prefer "To Reap The Heavens", the follow-up
Forsaken - After The Fall

And a Six Pack of the more "out there" or extreme (brought to you by Mountain Dewm) from the list:

Ahab - The Call Of The Wretched Sea - though the follow-up, Divinity Of Oceans might be a little better with the inclusion of some post elements.
Evoken - Antithesis Of The Light
Faal - The Clouds Are Burning
Mar De Grises - Draining The Waterheart - Awesome stuff with some proggy bits, from Chile
Process of Guilt - Erosion - harsher stuff with some post-metal tossed in.
Profetus - Coronation of the Black Sun

ANd finally, two more ...

Esoteric - Maniacal Vale - if you enjoy Ahab, Faal and Evoken, give this monstrosity a listen. If you don't like those three, stay away.

Nortt - Gudsforladt - opposite end of the spectrum. Verges on ambient music, really.

From that post what catches your fancy and Marcel can probably post 5000 more bands, 570 of which have crashed in his cave apartment during the Dutch leg of some tour or other.

I highly recommend you check out Warning, as Bitter mentioned above^ Same with Esoteric, but you should only check them out if you like crushing funeral doom and even some small ambient and drone elements.

Well since you like Candlemass maybe give Stone Magnum a chance. They have a similar vibe to them imo. Their last album (Holy Blessings To None) was a nice mix of doom and heavy metal elements and one of my favourite albums of last year.

Another one that I always recommend (and one of my favorite bands) is Heavenwood.

Excellent thank you, I am not opposed to drone and I'm not too familiar with funeral doom but it intrigues me. \m/

I recommend the band Daylight Dies if you're into death/doom metal. If Katatonia were to continue on with their Brave Murder Day style sound, this wouldn't be too far off from that actually. Good stuff all around.

I'm sure you've already heard the classic albums of Candlemass (seeing as they're one of the bigger names in Doom), but they have a new EP coming out towards the end of May, though it's too early to determine if it's an overall good EP, they just released the title-track recently and I'm impressed. So I would keep an eye out for that one.

Since you mentioned Candlemass, check out Altar of Oblivion, Below, Krux, and Crypt Sermon. You could also check out Abysmal Grief, Black Oath, Black Pyramid, or Argus. I'd also recommend Khemmis, Cough, Pallbearer, and Conan. That's all I can think of off the top of my head.
