Simply put Heavy Bass and Groove Death Metal from England. Those Once Loyal there last album was amazing. There earlier work is also very impressive. They've had a few to say the least line up changes, but they have stayed fairly consitent in their work. To bad they haven't been in the U.S forever. Really good band that I recommend to any Death Metal fan.

Besides their lyrical themes, Bolt Thrower sounds like it to me.

While their brand of death metal is certainly slower and chunkier, I don't think it's the same kind of death/doom typical of Autopsy or Asphyx. I know those are two bands that are probably compared to BT often but I think that's just in terms of them all being old school, like Grave or Incantation.

ahum Autopsy and apshyx can be considered doom/death not death/doom, there's a slight difference between the two. The first being primarily death metal with doom influences and the other one the other way around.

And BT are pure death metal, nothing less nothing more, nice mid tempo pummeling death metal.

For me Bolt Thrower is death metal's Motörhead, you know what you'll get and it's good. Luckily they haven't released as many albums as Motörhead and I support their decision about cancelling the recording of their upcoming albm because it wasn't strong enough, more bands should think that way

I think "Those Once Loyal" was a great and memorable album, so it's understandable that it wasn't easy to top it.

Did anyone see that Mr. Willetts started a new band, Memoriam?

Since Bolt Thrower is probably not going to record anymore, this could be an awesome replacement. And by the first sample they posted on their facebook, it's gonna sound very similar. How cool is that?

I already know about Memoriam. I got an update here not long ago.

Looks like the band is on hold, not too surprising anyway.

What I do find remarkable is that Memoriam is already planning an album for May/June and even some shows!! Highly anticipate anything new, the sample sound rad and seeing anything close to Bolt Thrower is always good.

Along with Death, Bolt Thrower is my favorite death metal band. And that's kind of interesting, because they're so different in their style:
Every Death album is different in their genre and sound, but always have very technical riffs.
Bolt Thrower is far less diverse, having the same lyrical themes and almost always the same vocals. But while Bolt Thrower are formulaic, their crushing riffs are so charmingly simple yet captivatingly effective.
The first Bolt Thrower album that I heard was IVth Crusade. I followed that with For Victory and Those Once Loyal. Now I'm discovering their earlier albums (Realm of Chaos, Warmaster) and later albums (Mercenary). And I can't find any fault! All of their songs are enjoyable, every riff that I hear could land in a compilation of greatest riffs in metal...
Does anyone else love these two bands so much too?

I too love both Death and Bolt Thrower equally as much, both are unique and brilliant in their own way, and both very consistent

I guess the two are my favourite death metal bands, too.
While they may be very consistent, I dont like all albums from both bands.
With Death it is the early albums (Scream.. and Leprosy) that dont do too much to me.
With Bolt Thrower it is also their early grindcore stuff (In Battle..., Realm...) that is not for me, and two later albums (Mercenary and Honour....) that I find pretty generic.
But as for the rest of them both, almost everything is masterpiece or at least excellent, for me.
