Machine Head - Members Quit, Announce Farewell Tour (Update)

UPDATE: It looks like Machine Head will continue as a band, even after the departure of Dave McClain and Phil Demmel. A Facebook post has clarified that the upcoming tour is a farewell tour of this line-up and not the farewell tour of Machine Head.

Band statement: "After 23 years with Dave McClain pounding the skins at the drum throne, and 15 years with Phil Demmel shredding the guitar on stage right, both members have decided to move on from Machine Head and open a new chapter in their lives.

"The upcoming Freaks & Zeroes Tour of North America (that starts this Thursday in Sacramento, CA) is still happening, and will be a celebration of the music that the line-up have created throughout the years. The split is amicable, and the guys are looking forward to playing these very special shows for the Head Cases of North America and ending this era on a positive and classy note.

"Head to our YouTube page to watch Robb's emotional announcement. To clarify: this is the Farewell Tour of this line-up of Machine Head, not the Farewell Tour of Machine Head, as has been reported in the media.

" Machine Head wish to thank Phil and Dave for their significant contributions to the band, both musically and lyrically, as well for the spirit, genuine passion they infused into the music, and legendary live performances brought along the way.

" Machine Head ask that you, the Head Cases, the Freaks & Zeroes, the Lion Hearts of America, come down and have a drink (or 5), a joint (or 3), rage at the shows, let your freak-flag-fly, and celebrate this unique moment in time with us. Thank you friends,
- Machine Head"

Original news, published on 29.09.2018: It looks like Machine Head has imploded. Robb Flynn announced on Facebook that their upcoming fall tour will be the band's last as both guitarist Phil Demmel and drummer Dave McClain have quit the band this week. Flynn comments in a 10-minute Facebook Live video that this breakup is most likely due to how he has run the band as leader. You can catch Machine Head on their upcoming Farewell Tour starting next month.

"I have held on too tight to the reins of this band and I have suffocated those guys," the Machine Head frontman admitted, "I've got some rough edges; I'm kind of a barnacle. Those rough edges have given us the success we have but they've also hurt the people around me. I've got a lot of drive, but I've got a lot of anger and rage, and that drive of mine has alienated folks in the band. I ask that you respect Phil and Dave's decision, as I respect their decision."

Flynn went on to say that he doesn't "know what the future holds." He plans to "do a little bit of soul searching here in my life and take a long, hard look at myself, as I've done in the past. I've done 20 years of therapy at this point, and apparently it wasn't enough," he laughed. "I guess I need to do about 20 more."

He needs to focus more on music and everything can be alright. So he's not SJW anymore?

Robb unnecessarily trying to be a central figure, when in fact he always comes across as a dickhead.

Thank you for The Blackening, it was indeed magnificent. Other than that, I don't see any reason for this band to exist.

Come on, their first album "Burn My Eyes" is a true masterpiece ! Unfortunately they couldn't keep up with such quality and after their second album they were dead to me. Their latest step in mellow land was surely a sign that things could not get worse. They'd better call it quit than keep making crap imo.

The Blackening and Locust were good records. Rob is a weak lead vocalist though. Always has been. He;s a great guitar player and so is Phil. This band could have been great. Ego's will derail any promising band.

Not surprising in the least bit. Last few albums were atrocious. The Blackening and Burn My Eyes were great pieces of groove metal, though.

So that evolved from a "Robb Flynn acknowledging mistakes" to a "this is not the end, suckas"?
Oh well, what faint glimmers of hope I had for MH after their latest turd is gone. McClain and Demmel have chosen the right path I guess...

Well the debut is a pretty prime cut of 90s groove metal as well, but aside from those two, yeah... pretty forgettable
