In 2006, ten years after his first release with his own project Revolting Cocks, the genius Al Jorgensen was back with a new album "Cocked And Loaded". This CD got some good reviews and he decided to do a remix version of the album. One year later "Cocktail Mixxx" is out on AFM records.

As you can understand, "Cocktail Mixxx" is just a new version of the previous release of the combo. All the songs are here but they're all different, remixed with some new sonorities. The numerous guests are still here of course, (Jello Biafra (Dead Kennedys, Lard) Gibby Haynes (Butthole Surfers), Rick Nielsen and Robin Zander (Cheap Trick), Billy Gibbons (ZZ Top), Stevie Banch (Spyder Baby), Mike Scaccia and Mark Baker (Ministry) or Phildo Owen (Skatenigs)), it's not a new recording but the songs are remixed. It's a bit like an electro version of "Cocked And Loaded" which was already really industrial and even if it doesn't sound bad at all and can be fun and even dancing, the "new" songs are not better than the first ones. It's a matter of taste, if you need something like that, it will be perfect for you but if you cannot understand albums in the vein of "Remanufacture" (Fear Factory), you'll have to pass your way.

What's the interest of this album? In fact, if I have to be honest, I don't see any big real interest in this release. Of course it's obvious that Jourgensen is a genius and that he is able to do what he wants with all his songs but hey, if you already have the original album do you really need the same one with only remixed tracks? It's not worst but it's not better too so is it must? I don't think so. The fans of the band or the ones who like remixes will have to check this album but for the others, please have a look on "Cocked And Loaded" first (and of course on the first album of Revolting Cocks too).

I have nothing to add, "Cocked And Loaded" was maybe a good album but "Cocktail Mixxx", without being bad is nothing special too. This release is only recommended to all the people who love Revolting Cocks and want everything produced by this combo. The others can try it after all some remixes are cool but it's nothing essential too. Note by the way that Jourgensen will also release a remixed version of "Rio Grande Blood" this year.

It should be noted that Jourgensen didnt actually remix all of these tracks... Luc Van Acker, Clayton Worbeck and Phildo Owen are responsible.
