i, for one, hate improvisational jazz mainly, when the only one who isn't soloing is the drummer playing in 17/13 time signature a 32-bar rhythm.. sure, you're technical, but.... no emotion in your playing, therefore YOU SUCK!

Dubstep, techno, house, dance, actually 99.9% of anything outside of metal (and for me hard rock = metal)

17.12.2012 - 16:31 Written by X-Ray Rod on 17.12.2012 at 16:28 why do people keep on bringing up that silly reason that something has to be offensive in order to be able to hate it? No it doesn't have to be offensive for me to hate it, as long as it sounds crap that's enough reason to hate it for me, and guess what 99.9% of all music outside metal/hard rock sounds crap to me hence I hate it.

Difference of opinions and what not. Probably because I don't regularly use the word "hate" in music.

Account deleted Written by X-Ray Rod on 17.12.2012 at 19:58 Yeah "hate" used in the context of music is not really a legitimate thing. I think people really like to throw that word around for the sake of it but it doesn't mean what it truly means. At most people are mildly annoyed by the existence of certain forms of music.

It's just a figure of speech really

Hate is something that specifically takes your attention obliviating the rest. Therefore I can't think in any genre that I'm constantly rambling for existing. There are obviously some of them that I don't like but then again I haven't really dug into them well. There are always exception IMO.

I used to think that I hated genres within metal or rock, but then I realized that most of my hatred comes from the fans and how they behave towards music. I guess it's funny for me to say how much I hated Anathema before I realized that I had nothing personal against the band, but the fans in Iran.

21.01.2013 - 11:58 Written by Marcel Hubregtse on 14.12.2012 at 02:19 That 99.9% is an incorrect percentage; either it's a bit lower, or, you'd have to put it up to 100%. Do you hate classical music? If so, why? What about modern, movie classical music, like Zimmer?

Although it'd be a stretch to say that I "hated" any genre of music, spending years living above someone who constantly played hardcore dance/techno/rave "music" very loudly, and sometimes in the early hours of the morning, made me genuinely despise it. It makes most grind sound like easy listening in comparison, I can tell you... I wouldn't go as far as Marcel, as I do like lots of video game music, classical, and even a small amount of pop. I also am a bit geeky when it comes to tv and movie themes. Aside from hardcore techno/rave I don't think I really hate any musical genre... I do dislike the vast majority of rap and country music though.

23.01.2013 - 05:02 Written by Marcel Hubregtse on 21.01.2013 at 12:22 List every single genre AND subgenre out there in the world (that will be a mighty feat if you do - and, you technically can't say you hate something if you haven't listened to it; though, you could say, "I have good reason to believe that all subgenres within this particular genre I will most likely not like; and, therefore, I will simply say I don't like it." However reasonable that may be, you still can't say for certain until you've listened to it all - something which I doubt anyone has done, as I think there would be subgenres that aren't anywhere on the net or recorded by big labels), and then show me the math. Oh, and, by the math, you add them all up, and work out the exact percentage. I highly doubt it will work out to 99.9% - most likely a somewhat arbitrary figure you pulled out of your ass. If not, then my first statement is valid within this regard. It could be 99.95736595% - who knows; the 5 & 7 after the 9 means it rounds up... which is an obvious error, of course. As to my OP, "Do you hate classical music? If so, why? What about modern, movie classical music, like Zimmer?" Also, there was something else I was about to say... I can't remember.

24.01.2013 - 09:32 Written by Night Theater on 23.01.2013 at 05:02 Your post is ridiculous pseudo-math. Yes, it is highly unlikely that the exact percentage Marcel hates is 99,9%. It's even unlikely it rounds up or down to that. But your post is no closer to the truth. "Either it's a bit lower or you have to up it to 100%." On what basis? It's just as unlikey to be 99.95736595% as it is to be exactly 99,9%. There's no reason it would have to be " a bit lower", let alone higher. If you're trying to say that it's a rhetorical devise and not an accurate number, then you're right; and I doubt Marcel even meant it to be accurate. But the way you're arguing about it, your would-be smartassery, just fails.

Anyway, before my original question is lost: do you, Marcel, hate/dislike classical music?
