well they are keeping their own style and the new album is nice for a while.
I just checked the video ''My Twin'' and is not bad at all in production.

@ Ultraraw: the older stuff is good, but I prefer the newer, especially because of the vocals, I think the clean vocals sound really good (and Akerfeldt is better with Opeth). But "Brave murder day" is one of the greatest death/doom albums indeed.

I don't want to be tedious saying again and again that I can't really stand any Katatonia album (except Brave Murder Day)... but I had been listening to October Tide lately and I'm really into that band. Side project of Renske and Fredrik Normann, for the ignorants out there

Yeah the video is great, actually "July" is my favorite song from "The Great Cold Distance", but I prefer the video for "My Twin".

I agree with you here. Yet I did find it very nice to notice that there was an entire album and EP in existence on which Mikael is featured once more! And, concerning their albums, I have to say that I do prefer the newer material. The clean vocals suit the sadness of the music perfectly.

I absolutely love The Great Cold Distance. I havent really heard much of their previous work, but judging on the performance in this album... Then I'll probably go off and get some more..
Its so hard to pick a favourite track from this album, every single one has certain aspects that are amazing, and none can be seen as a weak link in the album...

Ah yes, Katatonia, what an excellent band! I have Dance of December Souls, Brave Murder Day, Last Fair Deal Gone Down, and The Great Cold Distance so far. I like both the Doom/Death and more Rock-ish material the same.

in my opinion it just doesn't get any better than "Viva Emptiness." Every song on there is a classic (although "Sleeper" kind of bores me,) but the whole concept of the album just makes it that much more enjoyable to listen to

On the run up to the forthcoming May 28th release of "Live Consternation", a new mini-site has now been launched. The site includes details about the release, plus video & audio previews from the concert, downloadable wallpaper and screenshot gallery as well as a chance to pre-order an exclusive signed copy, but hurry as these are strictly limited (1000 copies).
Check it on Katatonia website here in the news section.

I love everything from this band from Discouraged Ones and forward. I'm simply more fan of the clean vocals. And for me they have just grew better and better for each year. Cold Ways and will always be one of my favourite songs by Katatonia, but the favourite album must be Viva Emptiness, with The Great Cold Distance really really close behind.

i prefer the older staff, cause i really like doom metal, and i find those harsh vocals much more interesting than the clean singing...
Brave Murder Day is one of the best doom albums ever!!
i only own viva emptiness of the "new" katatonia, but it doesn't catch me as the first two albums, i think they lost the sadness, melancholy and the incredible desperation which made their songs so beautiful.
viva emptiness bores me with time.
Thank you for likeing old stuff
I like old stuff too, Im nothing against clean vocals, but not in Katatonia, firts 2 realsies are awsome and great, now rhay looks and sounds like emo
Great poetry, great melodies, ideas and inspiration, old dark, cloudy and rainy stockholm in 90ties was awsome

@ K7: hahaha come on dude, the newer Katatonia doesn't look emo. They departed from the original doom style, but they are still cool, in a different way.

And of course the older stuff sounds superiour, it's Michael Akerfeldt on vocals you're hearing there! Nobody can resist! But that doesn't mean I do not like the newer stuff, I find it to be very appealing, in a different way. It still has that sway of melancholy over it.

The last album... prog death?!
Yeah... and Madonna play Black Metal with some Grindcore on it.
Katatonia never had death metal influences, unlike most of the doom band who had death influences... they actually take them from the black metal scence... Quitew clear on the first album.
