Bands
Cough

Conceived in the fertile metal underground of Richmond, VA circa 2005, Cough have sought to be the heaviest band ever since their inception. The band takes inspiration from the most savage aspects of extreme music, from crushing doom metal and grimy sludge to early black metal. After the independent 2007 release of their first EP, The Kingdom, Cough quickly put out their first proper full-length, Sigillum Luciferi (Forcefield Records, 2008). Recorded with acclaimed producer Sanford Parker (Minsk, Rwake, Pelican, Nachtmystium), Sigillum Luciferi was an ugly, agonizing display of misanthropy. Slight bits of psychedelia wormed into the massive riffs and wove their way throughout the band's inhuman screams, making the record one of the most impressive pieces of doom metal to emerge from North America in quite some time.

Bands
Circles

Australian alternative progressive rock powerhouse Circles are the next step in the evolution of heavy music. The intricacy, the emotional heartstring pull of the lyrics, the precision, and the sheer force of their output places them in a class of their own. The Melbourne-based, world-class outfit will unleash their highly anticipated new album The Last One worldwide on August 31st 2018 through Wild Thing Records (AUS) and Season of Mist (EU/USA).

The Last One, an album of tremendous power and lyrical inventiveness, delivers on the promise made on their Basick Records debut album Infinitas (2013). With guitarist Ben Rechter assuming the role of lead vocalist and fellow band members Ted Furuhashi (guitar/backing vocals), David Hunter (drums), and Drew Patton (bass guitar/screamed vocals) providing a maelstrom of musical brutality, Circles have written and recorded a simply phenomenal album. The band's uniquely designed off-kilter stadium-like riffs and dynamic grooves, exemplified in the track "Dream Sequence", beautifully contrast with breathtaking soaring vocals and catchy hooks apparent in highlight song "Tether", with new front-man Ben Rechter's lush melodic singing styling instantly becoming a signature of Circles' ever expanding sound.

False - Portent

Three long epics of riff-heavy USBM (and a postlude) from a Gilead Media band. And also look at that cover art. Get on fucking board.

Wait A Minute! This Isn't Metal! - June 2019

We here at Metal Storm pride ourselves on our thousands of metal reviews and interviews and article; metal is our collective soul and passion, which is why we bother with this junk. That being said, we'd be lying if we stuck to our trve-kvlt guns and claimed that metal is the only thing we ever listen to. Whether we want to admit it or not, we do check out some other stuff from time to time; some of us are more poptimistic than others, but there's a whole world out there aside from Satan-worshiping black metal and dragon-slaying power metal. This article series is the place for those artists who don't matter to metal in the slightest (more or less) but still warrant some conversation - after all, good music, is good music, and we all know metal isn't the only thing on this planet for any of us.
