Finsterforst - Mach Dich Frei

It seems common now that the pagan genre directs its view onto modern themes and problems. The most popular examples include Varg or Equilibrium. And while mentioning those two, it's most convenient to change topic to the new Finsterforst album, which is best described by a mixture of the aforementioned bands. Mach Dich Frei is the fourth studio album of the neo-pagan warriors from the black forest, after which the band is named. And indeed, it is a worthy one.

Thrashless - Cult Of Fear

Thrashless might have missed the popular thrash revival bandwagon as it sped popularly by in the past several years, but leaving it all at that would be to miss the general point of the popular thrash revival you know. Namely, popular thrash had been revived, so the point was that thrash had never died, it just wasn't very popular. That is to say that "popular" thrash just wasn't a very popular genre for a couple decades, and so on.

Primitive Man - Home Is Where The Hatred Is

Primitive Man makes music of the sort that primitive men probably would have made if they had access to big amps and, in this case, some Relapse recording facilities. Maybe that won't be a shock considering their name, but it is rare that a band's name fits as well as theirs does. Slayer, I mean, or Mayhem? Aura Noir, which isn't even English, Jeff Loomis, Cro-Mags etc. Primitive Man fits Primitive Man though. They play like they hunt and gather to survive and will die in some way involving teeth, their own or otherwise.

Bands
Astral Sleep

Astral Sleep is a Finnish Doom Metal band formed in the summer 2004 when Markus Heinonen, fed up with his former band's inactivity decided to start a new project. He recruited his old friend Rolle Heinonen (despite having the same family name the guys are not related) and the two started writing music.

Inspired by the late, great Unholy, Markus wanted to have a full line-up able to play live and so they invited another old friend Jaakko Oksanen to play the bass. The three had played together in a band around 2002. After a few rehearsals the band got their first gig on Kauksu-Rock 2005 (a small local festival) where they used Rolle's younger brother Roope as a session drummer.

Ur Draugr - The Wretched Ascetic

Ur Draugr certainly know how to draw a punter in. Indeed, who can resist wanting to listen to a release with a cover featuring what looks like a giant creepy grown up foetus doing some weeding by pulling up entire trees from the ground. And couple that with a cool title like The Wretched Ascetic and one instantly thinks "this has to be good." Yet, as we all know, judging anything by its cover is a path fraught with risk.
