After a six hour drive to Atlanta, trying to find a parking space around my hotel for 30 minutes, standing 2 hours in the sun waiting for the doors to open (because the time on my ticket was wrong), and forgetting to grab my camera before I left my house, it was finally time to see the Twilight of the Thunder God Tour.

The Absence

I have known about The Absence since the release of their first full length album, From Your Grave, and have wanted to see these guys live ever since. For a band that has only been around since 2002, these guys are bringing a lot fresher material to the table than a lot of these more well known cookie cutter bands. Seeing them play live was just really damn awesome. They were on key with their songs, know how to get the crowd going and are just really energetic. I would have liked for them to have played a longer set though and have played some more songs from their first album but you can't get everything you want I guess. But their cover of Into the Pit is just awesome. It seemed like pretty much half the place opened up into a big ass mosh pit and people were running round and round hitting each other and what not (I partook in this as well).

Setlist:
Riders Of The Plague
Dead And Gone
The Murder
World Divides
From Your Grave
Into The Pit (Testament Cover)

Skeletonwitch

Now this is a band that I have listened to occasionally but have never really given them a serious listen. Seeing them live for the first time changed that. If you have never listened to their music it is pretty much a mixture of thrash and black metal. Very fast playing and very brutal blackened vocals. It was also cool getting to listen to them play two new songs from their upcoming album.

Setlist,Not in order:
Beyond The Permafrost
Baptized In Flames
Sacrifice For The Slaughtergod
Upon Wings Of Black
Every Rotten Corpse Shall Burn
And 2 new songs from their fourthcoming album; 1st was titled From Crust to Dust and couldn't clearly hear what the 2nd was called.

Goatwhore

After Skeletonwitch played I went outside to have a smoke and was brutally tired from my day's adventure so I pretty much just sat out there and rested with my wife and waited for Amon Amarth to come on.

Amon Amarth

By the time Amon Amarth came on the whole place was packed wall to wall. You could hear in the crowd at least a dozen viking blow horns going off. Then AA comes on to the stage and blasts into Twilight of the Thunder God. The solo for the song was completely different than it was on the album though, which I kind of expected since it was Roope who played it, but I thought that the one they played didn't work for the song at all. To me it sounded like it maybe was an octave off or something. Also the same goes for Guardians of Asgaard when they played it but it fit a little better. They played quite a few songs from their previous albums which I wasn't expecting. When I saw them on the With Oden On Our Side Tour it was pretty much their whole new album with a couple old songs thrown in there. But not the case on this tour. But since this was my 5th time seeing them live I knew that Amon Amarth would deliver with making a great show.

Setlist:
Twilight of the Thunder God
Guardians of Asgaard
Asator
Free Will Sacrifice
Bleed For Ancient Gods
Victorious March
Under the Northern Star
Where Death Seems to Dwell
Masters of War
The Fate of Norns
Tattered Banners And Bloody Flags
Death in Fire
