Thryce actually got some respect from me for writting this article. I do wonder about his real intentions though... If his intentions were for people to actually get into the genre then I sort of doubt he will find any success because sadly, there are too many people who still have some major stupid prejuices about the genre (or like you say it.. they are quite gay).
Even though I completely despise the way you wrote this article and because of it I don't think that many will take your recommendations seriously... I will check some of this stuff out because hey... Ion Dissonance is pretty fucking great tbh.

I'd like to point you to The Newreview's "review" of suicide silence's new creation, where they peg Frank Mullen's guest vocals the weakest of the album, beneath Lights and the vocalist of korn.
I mean how fucking dare they. |

I don't find any fun in this article, either. It's annoying to read. Had only the first paragraph been written like then it would have gained power, credibility and even fun factor. But now it's a joke that starts of strong but becomes weak because it drags on. |

Not a huge fan of the music, but loved the article. found the continued "forcing" of the joke (or in my opinion, simply 'not breaking character') to be hilarious.
it's preemptively dismissive of the types of people who are likely to respond in a dismissive manner to an article on Deathcore, regardless as to how it is written. kudos. |

Deathcore kids = cartoon characters who look like they crapped their pants.
My area is teeming with this scene and it's quite unsettling. The article did make me laugh though. Especially the picture of the guy throwing up gang signs.
Many deathcore bands are highly skilled at their instruments, but the whole pseudo-intelligence mixed with "toughguy" attitude doesn't mix well for me. It's very off putting and it makes me keep my distance. Next to the ridiculous stage antics, the vocals are probably my biggest peeve about this genre "WAH WAH WAH". Watching these videos only refreshes my distaste. |

| Now that I've listened to most of the songs... I don't understand the hate, the "it's not metal" or the "pussified music". Granted, I didn't personaly like a lot of it (these hardcore breaks got on my nerves pretty fast), but this is definitely metal (and hardcore) music, and it's certainly not mellow or pussy stuff. What's the problem if emo kids or hardcore guys like those, really? |

Because people get too sensitive and want the rest of the fans to be just as "cool" as them. So they won't like a band because of the fanbase.
Yeah, kind of pathetic uh? It seems like they (the haters that is) are the brainless tough guys instead

I'm rather confused by the people who call this accent "leetspeak." To me, it comes across as Toughgy McGansta mashed up with texting lingo and grammar. Does replacing a few letters with numbers qualify as leet these days?
As for the music, I listened to it all and it just isn't my cup of tea. If preferring cleaner vocals, melodies, and normal time signatures makes me wimpy and uncool, then it's good to know that I haven't changed at all. |

Appreciate the effort nonetheless and will check out some of the djentle songs when I'm in the mood. |

Bah I don't despise* all Deathcore... I mean some of them create alot of Animosity* among metal fans, thats true... but I breath* only for those who actually proved to be original and not those who will Perish* sooner or later of total uninspired boredom... I wasn't Born* to see metal become what it became, but eh you gotta live with it... whats done is done and I shall try and listen more to this genre and try to actually get into it... and even in my contempt* maybe I'll find a fan out of myself. or not..
BTW: for those who actually answered seriously and tried to diss our beloved staff member... hope you all realized he was being Ironic by writing like this lol... I mean wtf how can u guys can take this seriously and yeah maybe it got out of control.. and got boring to read.. but eh, he still put some good tunes and I appreciate the effort. Also, I thought I would never like this but some of the songs are pretty neat. Also, the fact that you guys react so bad to it... means he's actually right lol anyways you guys keep arguing while I actually take the time to listen to the songs and dig the real meaning of this article... pussies hahaha

Same here. I don't see why most guys in this comment section hate so much on Thryce. I mean, he took all his time and efforts to introduce everyone on the site to some interesting new music and there you go - you couldn't even get the whole typing joke. I mean, srsly guys? Was it that hard for you to read? Speaking of the reading part, I personally had no problems with it.
As for the music, it's naturally not my cup of tea but I'm an open-minded person which automatically made me give all those songs a try. In the end, I digged: Despised Icon, I The Breather, The Contortionist, Bermuda and Born Of Osiris (whom I enjoyed the most.) Not sure how much I'll be listening to deathcore from now on but at least I know I've given this genre a try so that I could actually build an opinion on my own about it instead of repeating "tr00 toughguy" type of comments.
P.S. 1: If it wasn't for this article, I probably wouldn't have ever checked on Born Of Osiris. And guess what? I'm hooked up on them now.
P.S. 2: I can recall experiencing the same kind of hatred with "Greatest Metal Video Ever" ... |

OMFG, I just spent like 20 minutes typing an epic response to defend deathcore here and accidentally hit a link which took me to another page wiping away everything i had written, but basically... there are a bunch of pretentious older metalheads that don't like deathcore because they are just that... older. Young bands, young fans, they don't want to be associated with it. Who cares. metal is about fun as much as it is about being serious too. Get off your high horse. Younger guys that don't like deathcore is because they are pretentious and think they are too good for it because it would not be troo and kvlt to like deathcore. "What will happen to my reputation if my metalhead friends see a Born of Osiris album amongst my Opeth, Darkthrone and Arcturus albums?" Who cares, listen to it and be an individual.
I'm not saying it's bad to not like deathcore or certain genres of metal because the music truly doesn't do a darn thing for you. I'm just saying, be an individual and just don't hate deathcore because that's the trendy troo thing to do. Don't hate it because your friends won't listen to it. Don't hate it because of some Internet chatroom bashing. As far as I'm concerned there are plenty of Iron Maiden songs that sound more pussy than those videos Thryce has placed in his article. It's all in the eye of the beholder. And yes I rock some cheesy Maiden songs along with deathcore as I cruise the streets.
Well, that was longer than I meant to type. But oh well. Metalheads are just a silly bunch of folk. It would be nice if they would remember what it was like to be young and into metal for the first time though. I think a lot of these kids that like deathcore are experiencing that. And when they are 40, like some of you are nearing, maybe they will enjoy the same underground, kvlt, limited release neon vinyl loving bands you do and will stand in the back of the venue with the same dingy 20-year-old jacket on drinking an expensive ale critiquing the younger audience members for being young. Peace. |

I would argue that as progressive as Yes was, they would only move from one 4/4 to another, or a 4/4 to a 6/8 and back. Even the few times they used something like 7/8 or 7/4 was listenable (Lightning Strikes is awesome!). This Djent stuff where they lay a 7/8 guitar riff over a 4/4 drum track just messes with my head. The closest Yes ever came to anything like that was Perpetual Change and even then that lines up nicely if you're paying attention.
I've always had a hard time with jarring time signature changes, like 4/4 for three measures, then 5/4 for two, then 4/4 for two, then 7/4 for a few more. Yes never did anything like that; they were much more straight forward. |

This may be very hard to believe, but some people just dislike deathcore because, I dunno, nearly all of it sucks? Most of it is just the same br00tal breakdowns and half assed death/grind riffs that kids listen to to feel tough. It'll begin dying down by late 2012 anyways. Not to say all deathcore bands are bad Born of Osiris is pretty good. Dey al$o loaded wit bling. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dD2Pl-tp04k |

I understand what you are saying, they kept the changes bearable to the more common listener. I don't suppose you are a King Crimson fan?
For me, the time signatures mean squat unless the song can actually convey some energy or emotion, so I have no preference (whether it be 4/4 or 13,000/16). |
