We are very proud to present our first video interview here at Metal Storm! We caught up with Mayhem's legendary vocalist Attila Csihar at Hellfest Open Air earlier this year and talked to him about the future of Mayhem, Attila's approach to music and about the metal experience in general.
Attila assured us that Blasphemer's departure, while a setback, will also be a new chapter for Mayhem. "Mayhem is a name and its actually a very strong name in my eyes. I don't think this will be the end of the name". He also revealed to us some details about his various non-Mayhem projects, including Sunn 0))), Grave Temple and his collaboration with Jarboe.
We also talked about Attila's approach and vision for music. "I'm into nature, the Ancients - ancient civilizations, ancient ruins and philosophies and of course, spiritual dimensions, which do not belong to any religions" "For us, its about representing our freedom", he continues. "You play for the people, and the music manifests itself. People listen to it (...) and then it starts to go back and forth."
What does Mayhem offer the people then? "Well, I like to offer them freedom. Freedom to think what they like about the show and freedom to release all the pressure (...) and suppressions inside, to release it together and 'splash' it into the cosmos."
"If you watch the news, what the fuck is that? What kind of promotion is that? All the negative things - all the drugs, all the crime and all the bullshit. So what do you expect from the people? Of course they listen to Mayhem!"
"When I meet fans after the shows, they are very happy. They are released."

Yeah, definitely a nice step forward for us to have video interviews - and a good interviewee to lead with. It was equally interesting to see/hear Attila as it was to see/hear our Metal Storm brethren Jup and Lucas, as I hadn't heard them speaking before!

Funny part is when Attila Csihar was talking about Sunn o)))'s first show that the audience were 7 people, Juptreas said "You can go down and ask how do you like it?"  OK, this was great.. I'm also waiting for Barry vs Benighted  to see them, I've never read o seen any Benighted interview.

I did six of them I think.. but this obviously is letting you all see what us that run the site look/sound like as well!! Haha!! This was good to see, I wish I had been back there when they were doing this. Mayhem were one of the best of the festival!

listening to Attila always cracks me up, because he pronounces english words as if they were in hungarian. "everybody was WOAH!! all these japanese eyes were looking"  great interview. looking forward to more like these.

Good job Jerry and Lucas  Even if I'm not a fan of Mayhem, this kind of interview is really interesting, and diversifies MS' fields and actions. A really great new step on the site. And of course, I'm looking forward to the other interviews... as a lot of us here.

Ok, so that was great. Very interesting I must however complain a bit about those intros, which were a bit annoying On the other hand that was about 5 seconds per video, so I think I can take it

I agree with you. There are still some things that we need to work on. An external production company is editing the videos for us and the communication that we have with them is not ideal at the moment. Don't worry though, we are going to improve.

I give mad props to you both! Great job here! Interviewing is not something I like to do personally, but its enjoyable to read sometimes OR SEE IT!! Attila seems like a kickass dude as well! Though it reminds me a bit of 'my name a BORAT!', but on a more intelligent level. EDIT: Double Props!! Only saw the first two videos before taking a shower. Just watched the third one.... That was totally want I wanted to hear, my question and a pretty good answer! Downloading.. Again, he seems like a real relaxed, cool guy.
