I gave up on DSBM long time ago, this does not seem like something that would get me back on it. nice review anyway

Really impressive review! Judging your recent reviews, you have a wonderful imagination and describing ability. You have that ability to attract the listener. This is my kind of stuff..doom, blackness, despair. The last paragraph is impressive-
"The Det som engang var atmosphere not only feeds the nostalgic hunger for a time when black metallers weren't busy gazing at their shoes, but helps the songs feel more persistent in their collective effort to make you feel chilled to the bone. "
Great work! Looking to read more reviews from you.

Gazing at the shoes made me laugh, but try to scrap the last sentence from your mind

Wasn't too impressed by this. The vocals kill a lot of the mood, they sound like a parody.

It's not typically a depressive black metal album, it just hints at depression with its atmosphere. Epheles haven't ever really been considered a part of the depressive movement.

I think the vocals are perfect to be honest, especially how they're buried deep in the mix.

Totally agree with Troy. The vocals are perfect. As I stated in another thread, THIS is to my ears, the best BM release of 2011.

I could nearly hear the music from your description : raw and harsh guitar tone, repetitive riffs and deep buried vocals. sounds like DSBM to me gonna check it out soon

Just listen to Silencer, it's super accessible black metal.

Have you heard it now? Because I'm in my very first listen and this is not DSBM under any light imo.

Still haven't, will do as soon as I finish my exams (I still have to listen to most of the BM stuff that Troy reviewed)

The album was better than expected... Heh, I mean even with the load of sick shit I listen to, I still had a hard time listening to BM with this production but now it feels harmless... and also perfect for the music. I agree, not original by any means but shit it is very well executed and the melodies are beautiful.
