Oh boy...Another one of these albums. Yes, Totentanz is one of those albums that seems like the artists dumped all their creative brilliance into a select few moments, then left the rest dry and basic.

At its heart, Totentanz is a pretty interesting industrial-death metal album. It takes the basic cold, electronic sounding synths, weaves them in and out of some pounding melodeath. It all sounds pretty natural and linear until these smooth transitions drop them into some folk & symphonic passages. This is where Thunderkraft's talent really shines; everything is executed so smoothly it's almost hard to pick out these transitions from the creepy electro-industrial to the massive symphonic momens until you're in the midst of them. For the most part, the band has knack at coming up with music that's equal parts vicious, catchy and innovative. That's when they are at their best.

Then comes the worst. When not performing with an entertaining level of unpredictability, Thunderkraft tend to play the most basic form of industrial possible, sticking to those basic, flavourless charging riffs you've heard on every Rammstein album by now. This inconsistency makes Totentanz a sort of "playlist" type album, meaning there's a number of tracks on here that demand to be played repeatedly, but also a few that can be easily cut from the listening experience. Make your own playlist using only the best from this album and it will be a thoroughly enjoyable listen.

A definite recommendation for people who like aggressive, yet catchy industrial metal. Totentanz is just slightly too riddled with filler to be considered a masterpiece, but it's also filled with quite a few moments of brilliance which makes it worthy of at least a brief check-out.
