Let's say in doom metal, when bands from Finland, Chile, Switzerland, Estonia or even Austria released new album we just go over there quickly and check it out. Why? It's because we never heard them before. It's new to us. Upon checking it out, they rock our socks off. Similarly, it's the same in thrash metal.

How many Spanish thrash metal bands you listened to?

One? Two? Or maybe Three? Not many. That's for sure.

The issue is they aren't any groundbreaking thrash acts from Spain.

The last Spanish thrash metal album I thoroughly enjoyed was Soziedad Alkoholika's self-titled album and indeed it was amazing. It wasn't long after until I got to check out another Spanish metal album, Angelus Apatrida's Give 'Em War, which left an awesome taste in my mouth. It was another brilliant album. Now, listening to Exodia's debut album Slow Death is huge disappointment for me.

Bummer.

These young gas tankers inevitably jumped into 2012 with their debut album Slow Death to showcase their sheer talent for thrash metal. Well, no big deal. Others have already done it, you're new to the platform. When we take revivalist thrash scene, rehashing riffs, assessing to classics, run on the mill kinda factors into consideration, Slow Death is crushed in "okay, we already listened to tons of albums like this" humiliation.

Throughout the record, I felt a strong worship from Slayer and Exodus to Warbringer or even Death Angel. Singer Amando tries to emulate Mark Osegueda (Death Angel) or even David Sanchez (Havok)-esque vocals while the guitars (both in sound and direction) were rip-off's from Slayer's camp.

From the very start to the finish, I felt the album was pretty much throwback to contemporaries earlier (great!) work from bands such as Lich King's Born Of The Bomb, Havok's Time Is Up or Angelus Apatrida's Clockwork. That's right, because they just show us the work which was least capable of getting minimal appreciation.

The good part of Slow Death lies in tossing up variety of songs. Ranging from rhythm sections of slow tempo chorus( "No Solution") to blasting speed and destructive vocals ("World's Cancer, "Like A Rat", "No Rules No Kisses") to even a little touch of groovy parts ("Fight My Cock And Your Palate" and "Ensure My Safety"), thus making the overall atmosphere of the album quite crude and evil.
With great bass and drumming section, Exodia got away with their debut album quite handsomely; otherwise it's just another throwaway CD on a pile of "thrash albums been rigorously rehashed". Some crossover moments inducing Municipal Waste's playing added up the galore.

Well, on a whole, I believe this is just another thrash (cut copy paste) material we been through. They tried really hard to elevate the rate of interest, with their catchiness or inspiring record, but failed pathetically to impress the listeners. Yes, Exodia could be one of those bands whose start wasn't good enough, but have the potential to do great in the future, if they work on their limitations.
