What a great album title? Forward the spears, in the cover we see a demon army charging against the enemy, so far I was impressed, and I was very excited in hearing this one, being my first encounter with Forest Of Impaled, I didn't know what to expect?

The opener track "Forward the Spears" begins with a short instrumental intro that sets the mood here, this short intro could be easily taken from Lord Of The Rings or Gladiator movies, is very epic, if you look the cover art while listening to this, you'll see what I'm talking about, anyway, after the intro a hellish voice appears out of the nowhere shrieking ATTACK!!!!!! And that's how begins? 40 minutes of Death/Black Metal attack.

Musically speaking the direction taken here is more driven towards Death than Black, the variation of the voices are great, we have the typical (but understandable) Black metal shriek, the always welcome Death Metal gruff and some spoken/kind of whispered parts, so we have plenty of variety in the vocal department.

Some tracks are very old-school influenced, and by saying that, I know many of you are going to pay more attention to what's written here, songs like "Sons Of Cain" and "Death I Have become Thee" reminded me of some 80's Death bands.
Among my favorite tracks are "Forward The Spears" (just killer), "The Fall Of Trinity", "Hand Of Vengeance" and "Into The Mouth Of Oblivion".

I'm also glad that these guys didn't label their music, putting silly names as "War Metal" or "Epic Battle Metal", but I have to say, when you listen to this record you got the feeling of being in a big epic battle, the only question you have to ask yourself is, are you attacking or defending?
