This is my 420th review.

Naturally I had to check what was the unreviewed stoner metal album with the most ratings. Seems like Acid Mammoth won. Good. Because I like Acid Mammoth, as you might remember that we even nominated their previous record, Under Acid Hoof for the stoner category in the awards. And also because I will have to type it enough times never to misspell it as "Mamooth" again.

I was unsurprised that the band comes from Greece, considering how big the stoner scene there is, with acts like Nightstalker, Planet Of Zeus, 1000mods, Naxatras, Villagers Of Ioannina City among others. I lived in a city in Romania that had a pretty big stoner booking agency, so there was no shortage of stoner gigs in my city, and I swear half of those came from Greece. I've seen about half the bands I named, but sadly I haven't seen Acid Mammoth, probably because Under Acid Hoof dropped around the same time shit was getting dangerously close to the fan. Also the two venues had already been closed in a city that didn't appreciate its live music scene even before that scene completely died.

I guess it shouldn't be surprising that a stoner band is dropping a new album one year after its previous one, but I'm so used to having at least two years in between releases, I still felt like Under Acid Hoof was their latest. Nope. Time flies fast. Well, it's time to see what Acid Mammoth can do, and if they can keep things interesting for a follow-up too. And the answer is: Caravan sounds exactly like what you would expect it to sound like. Mammoth paced riffs, Ozzy-in-the-70s vocals, long songs, a permeating fuzz. In a lot of ways, Caravan is indistinguishable from Under Acid Hoof, or from pretty much most stoner metal albums.

Sure, Caravan does things right. The riffs and solos are pretty tight, and the chemistry might have to do with the fact that the two guitarists are father and son. The bass is pretty thick, the drumming is solid, and the vocalist does his job too. The production accentuates the mammoth-like feeling, making the entire thing feel gigantic. Whatever detriment I can find for Caravan is pretty much a detriment to the oversaturated genre as a whole. Does the world need more weed bong satan fuzz witch acid music? Probably no. But do I mind that there is more of it? Also no.
